I checked all the reviews and am I the only one to find that the 7970 GHz edition is better than R9-280X even though it is a rebranded Tahiti. I Guess AMD all this time might have been working a lot on bringing the Mantle, AMD True Audio and the latest monster R9-290X which by the rumors is a Titan beater.
Well compared to the HD7900 range the new cards are way to expensive. A HD7950 overclocked will match a R280X and cost £60 less.
If the R280X was £199 and come with True Audio I would have bought one.
Judging from those results i think i still got myself a good deal with my PowerColor PCS+ HD7950 http://www.powercolor.com/Global/pro...res.asp?id=425 £181 deal ..
I actually don't feel cheated not waiting for these new cards :)
I would agree, especially having waited for the new cards and found myself severely disillusioned with both producers. So, wait another year on my ancient kit, or buy something slightly less ancient knowing that I will be wasting my money on it........ Not a great choice IMO

Is the r9 280x just the same as the hd7970 ghz edition?
Well overall what I can say is yes R9 series is great and also the R7 for gamers much cheaper budget. The R9 280x is cheaper than 7970GHz edition and is a best buy if you are going for MSI and Sapphire's is nice but they took the card to the max specs and also the minimum psu required for the MSI variant is just 500w and 600w for crossfiring but Sapphire needs a minimum 750w and 1000w for crossfiring. The thing I really like is the R9 270X, its a 7870 xt sure it may not be a 760 beater but it does give a solid 1080p performance even in Metro:Last Light and that is what most gamer with a 1080p monitor needs right.

So the old Cedar and Caicos will be coming back as the R5 series.
Now the GPUs left for release could be the GTX 790 and R9 300X (280X x2 or 290X x2), both will need a lot more than 1000w if imagined.
Not really - it's yet another great rebranding exercise, this time carrying the 5450 and 6450 over to yet another new generation. I guess with Intel graphics ever improving and AMD's own APUs, they don't feel the need to innovate in the entry level market - they've already got dsecent DX11 cards available at that price point, so why bother doing something new for a market that simply doesn't need massive graphical capability...Quote:
