NVIDIA updates GeForce GTX 780 to GHz Edition
Source: http://videocardz.com/47420/nvidia-u...80-ghz-edition
NVIDIA has not only been working on a new flagship – GeForce GTX 780 Ti, but also on a new GTX 780 GHz Edition, which is cheaper (at launch) and faster than current model.
The so called GTX 780 GHz (Edition) is based on B1 revision of GK110-300 GPU. This is more efficient variant of A1 stepping, clocked at 1006/1046 MHz. The new GPU is said to provide better overclocking potential and, at the same time, lower power consumption.
NVIDIA will not release any reference model, this GPU only will be available from AIBs, most likely with custom cooling solutions.
Guys from Expreview already reviewed a sample of Inno3D’s GTX 780 GHz iChill Edition. This card is equipped with HerculeZ X3 Ultra triple fan cooler. Card is running at 1006/1048/1552 MHz for base, boost and memory respectively. It is equipped with 3GB GDDR5 memory.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 GHz models are expected to cost slightly above current GTX 780 cards.
Geforce GTX 780 series specifications
First up, please note that GTX 780 Ti specs are not confirmed.
Now, let me just say what I think is happening here. NVIDIA is probably refreshing both GTX TITAN and GTX 780 into new GPUs. Simply said, they will equip both cards with newer revisions of GK110 GPUs, which are clocked higher and utilize power more efficiently. That said, the GTX 780 would be replaced by GTX 780 GHz edition and GTX TITAN with GTX 780 Ti. But this is just my theory.
It looks like NVIDIA is squeezing all the juice left from GK110 right now. Higher clocked TITAN should be enough to compete with AMD’s R9 290X’s, and GTX 780 GHz will surely have a chance against R9 290. I don’t think that GTX 780 Ti would be a full GK110, it’s simply not required, but I’m sure that 2880 CUDAs would help TITAN owners to start thinking about new GPUs (just joking, TITAN should be enough for a long time).
Also AMD Radeon R9 290 pushed back by a week http://videocardz.com/47439/amd-rade...shed-back-week
According to the information from 3DCenter, AMD has postponed Radeon R9 290 launch date by a week.
The reason for that is supposedly a new, better driver which will increase R9 290 performance significantly (probably increasing power consumption at the same time).
NVIDIA’s offensive with the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, and now with GTX 780 GHz Edition is nothing that AMD expected. The funny thing is that they still deny it, they even say that they knew about new NVIDIA cards for a long time. Turns out they weren’t prepared for any move from NVIDIA, and now reviewers will have to retest their 290s, only because AMD changed something in the driver.
The card was expected to launch on October 31, 2013. The reason for this delay? AMD reportedly developed a new driver that significantly improves performance on the R9 290. AMD pushed this driver onto reviewers at the last minute, and asked them to re-bench their R9 290 samples from scratch, extending their NDA till the 5th. The driver reportedly makes the R9 290 extremely competitive with GeForce GTX 780. A side-effect of that would be that the recently launched Radeon R9 290X could be rendered unattractive. It remains to be seen if the driver also proportionately improves performance on the R9 290X, and how AMD ends up pricing the R9 290.
Re: NVIDIA updates GeForce GTX 780 to GHz Edition
Not sure 780ti will replace the titan. The Titan was always about compute for professional progamerers.
I would have thought the GHZ edition would come with 4gb ram? 3 seems a bit off as the chips will have to be mismatched or 1.5x density? EDIT: it has 384 bit memory bus so that sounds fine; i thought it had 256.
Re: NVIDIA updates GeForce GTX 780 to GHz Edition
I doubt Ghz edition would come from nVidia - that's far too like admitting your competitor had a great idea. Third-parties might however just overclock a 780 and call it a Ghz edition.
Re: NVIDIA updates GeForce GTX 780 to GHz Edition
no difference to any off the pre overclocked cards then...... lightning , glh etc
and theres only 1 source for this , all posts on news sites link to the source from the OP
Re: NVIDIA updates GeForce GTX 780 to GHz Edition
Well on OCUK they are selling a GHZ edition of the gigabyte windforce 780, so there may be some validity to this.
