    Unhappy MSI or Asus 760?

I've looked at the Warranty comparison image on here, and was questioning whether to get the Asus 760 now.

From the looks of things, the Direct CUII is a better cooler, but if RMA takes that long I don't want to risk it.

Would Scan deal with the RMA or would I have to go to Asus direct? They're virtually the same price with Today only.

Which one should I go for?

It's going to be used in this case: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/aeroc...window-w-o-psu

I really like the look of it.

If your dead set on a 760 might be worth stumping the extra £4 for evga?

    Re: MSI or Asus 760?

The reason I want a 760 is for Mac compatibility - I sold my 7850 as it didn't work with 10.8.5

The only way I can ensure that it'll work out of the box is by getting an NVIDIA card. AMD would normally be first choice, but the GeForce experience really appeals to me - updating drivers through AMD was such a pain in the backside.

I have 320 to spend, and with the Asus card it comes to 318. 4 more would take it to 322 I literally cannot borrow the extra bit - 320 is my top limit.

    Re: MSI or Asus 760?

Well ASUS quality is usually pretty high, I've used their Motherboards in the past three builds and owned a 7970DCUII Top. If it's doa scan should do a quick replacement, just hope you don't have to rma after.

A gtx 670 will be half the price and the same performance, a quick google suggest plenty of people have it working.

    Re: MSI or Asus 760?

They aren't a rebadge if that's what your thinking. There's as much as 20% performance difference due to higher shader count. It's faster than the 660Ti too. Edit: Doh for some reason I thought you wrote 660 I should l2readb4posting.

Yep herulach is right, get the 670 it's actually a better gpu and 24 quid less.

    Sod you then

Nvidia reference coolers are actually pretty good, especially in a mac as they chuck the hot air out the back rather than just pushing it round the case like the non ref ones. However, you still don't need to spend 320. You can have a Direct CUII 760 for £186 from scan, £320 is 4gb 770 territory.

    Re: MSI or Asus 760?

I have 185 to spend on a graphics card, because I need a new PSU too. Mine is 450w,but only has 1 PCI 6 pin adapter. It's a pain really.

The GPU isn't for a mac, it's for a computer I run OS X on as really my primary OS, but I can't be bothered to take the graphics card out every time I want to use Mac, which is what I used to have to do. The blower fans are loud and no good for over clocking - which is what I'll be doing.

    Re: MSI or Asus 760?

I'm about to return my second 280X card as it's running too hot! It's an Asus card that uses the DirectCU II cooler and it doesn't look like it's been fitted very well (getting temps of around 83C when gaming!).... I know Asus have had this issue before with their DirectCU II coolers and some people even added extra washers to the screws.

Anyway, regarding coolers i think the Nvidia reference coolers (blower type) are actually quite good when it comes to removing heat. Other coolers just dump all the heat inside your case (you'll need a few good case fans ).

83 degrees is quite normal for a 280x under full load is it not? If you're going to replace it again, it's got to be GIGABYTE. From reviews that I've seen, blower cards are always louder and hotter. I plan to overclock too.

All the reviews show the Asus R9 280X with temps below 70c when gaming, except one review where it hit 75c. My case has good airflow and a mesh side panel so it shouldn't be hitting 83c when gaming for less than an hour (the room is about 22c). Asus also boast about this card being 20% cooler than reference .

If i have to replace it again then i'll probably go for a GTX 770... It seems AMD 7970/280X cards can experience artifacting over 80c from what i can gather.

    Good point.

You've not had much luck with OC UK. Why not order through scan on some of their today only deals - you could get one for 240 the other day.

Within the last couple of months i've had to return 2 faulty HDDs (one DOA and the other lasted 10 months), a Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X that arrived with an open box (broken seals) and warped/bent cooler... And now a hot Asus R9 280X DirectCU II TOP . The cooler standoffs on the Asus card look uneven too (a couple have gaps where they should be screwed flat against the PCB).
