Looking for a new graphics card for 1080p

    Hello

I am looking to replace my obsolete GTS 450 DDR3 with something with a little more oomph. I would like something that lasts (as in something that will still work 3 years down the line), has good bang for buck and good on the power draw too.

I have found a Radeon R9 270 by Powercolor off of ebuyer for around £130. (As I am new to these forums I cannot post the url)

My budget is no higher than that, I could stretch to £140 if it is really really good. If there is something for less money that is nearly as good as an R9 270 (and the gap can be narrowed through overclocking) then I'll plump for that. I have no brand preferences, I just want something that is fast and works. I am running a 22 inch 1080p telly (yes my GTS 450 does chug along sometimes) and my power supply limits me to a card that has one PCI-E 6/8pin (its an OCZ Stealth X Stream 500watt).

The games I play are the source engine games like TF2 and Garry's Mod, Empire and Rome ii Total War, War Thunder, Skyrim and occasionally BF3.

    Thanks for any help

With that budget the 270x is an excellent choice. That said it might not live up to your expectations of 3 years, if you're talking about performance that is.

See if there are any 7000 series cards in the same price range.

When talking about it lasting for 3 years I was referring to it still working in 3 years lol. Tbh my GTS 450 has held out pretty well, I've been able to play games pretty well up until now. I've found a GTX660 off Scan for about £140 including postage and it comes with AC4 which I was considering getting after my graphics upgrade. As it comes free with this I wouldn't mind getting this card.

Yes there are faster cards there, the R9 270 being one, but I can live with the slower performance in return for the games that come with the card.

Strange trade off if you ask me, but each to his own.

The r9 270x is a great choice and if it starts to lack in a couple of years you can Crossfire it if you want

The r9 270x is a good choice but you could go with a r9 270 to save some money as the only difference is the clock speed.

the r9 270 is a good budget card and with the claims of mantle it may prove to be a really good budget card for the future if more games support it and the claims are true. I really don't understand why The never settle bundles are not on the R9 270, 280 and 290's tho.
