    Replacement Graphics Card Fan

Sorry if this info is on the board somewhere but i can't find it. My old Radeon 9800 pro fan making a noise at boot up and i want to replace it. it should be an easy job but i cannot find anywhere to get a replacement fan. i know i can go down the zalman silent options etc but rather just replace the fan with one the same.

I think its a 4mm fan but it looks to be a specific kind for ati cards? it's the generic one seen on most reference cards as below:

if anyone know of somewhere i could order such a fan in the uk i would be most grateful

Probably can't buy a replacement, iirc it's a frameless fan, like in the Zalman 7000 series heatsinks.

It'd be easier to just replace the whole heatsink with another one, such as the Artic Cooler

I agree with the Marmoset Warrior, the arctic coolers imo perform better than a Vantec as they exhaust their heat out of the case. Vantecs make ace Northbridge coolers tho.

and the vantec sounds like a hover 6000rpm and does not shift that much air, best to be avoided.

Something like the titan cooler is better.

There's no reason (in theory at least) why you can't replace it with any 40mm fan. You would need to do some cutting and modding though, and assuming of course, the fan mounting mechanism supports the mod.

(Pictures courtesy of SPCR's Ralf Hutter - modding a 7000)

The problem with 40mm fans is that all of them (yes, all of them!) are noisy because they need to run at high rpms to provide any sort of adequate cooling.

The other alternative is mounting a 80mm fan directly above the HS using rubber grommets.

If you're not comfortable modding, then as the others have suggested, buy a replacement fan heatsink - you can probably get some for £15.

hi folks thanks for you replies

in the end i opted for a Vantec Iceberq 4, reason i chose this over the artic cooler as i have no intention of overclocking and it's destined for a SFF pc.

was easy to fit and works a treat. cheers for all the advice

can i say you made a mistake, the vantec is noisy very noise ! 6000rpm so it sounds like a hover.

how do i know this....well i got one for my 9800pro and i swaped asap !

you would have been better off with the titan gfx cooler round about the same price too.

    http://www.thecoolingshop.com/produc...roducts_id/486

it spins at 4500rpm, shifts 10cfm compared to the vantec at 6000rpm and 5cfm

why o why does no one listen.....

been using the vantec for 2 months now and cant say ive noticed the noise, doesnt seem any noiser than the stock fan. im not using it in my main pc so im happy enough with the vantec.

possibly but as it's my daughter who has that pc now it's not really an issue. all i wanted was a replacement fan (not overclocking etc) and the vantec did the job perfectly for what i needed at the time, dont see it as a mistake in any way tbh. it works a treat and was easy to fit.

again thanks for all your replies
