    Gigabyte 770gtx Windforce 2g or 4g

Ok, so I looking to make a purchase of a new vid card. I have been upgrading my rig piece by piece. For vid cards I came across the windforce cards. Now Looking into future upgrades I know I am going to want a 4k monitor. Some of the new selections are pretty sweet with the IPS, 1440p res with better refresh rates but I have been reading that you will need a better card to make it all run comfortably

Now my thoughts are both cards have the same 256 memory interface so does that make a noticable difference when it comes to number of monitors and higher resolution while maintaining framerates in high end games.

Also, does anyone know if this 770gtx windforce is a quality card? I have seen vid reviews and whatnot but part of me feels that ppl give good reviews to all kind of things all the time without using them for an extended period of time.

    My sys specs are

    I7 4770k
    Asus Sabertooth z87 board
Nvidia Evga gtx 460 fermi ( I do realize either card will be better then this one haha)
    16gb 1866 Cl9 G.Skill Sniper
650w Thermaltake Power Supply SIngle 12v Rail
    Noctua NH D14

Not alot of extra money flow but Got the hard part out of the way so Just need to find part the rest gradually.

I would probably go for an R9 280X 3GB and TBH I would probably try and look at a GTX780 3GB or R9 290 4GB for around £300 to £350 if you are really serious about getting a 4K monitor in the next year or so.

Yeah, I can see what you mean. I could get a low end 780 and I would get the speed with the ram and the cuda cores. There is totally a 150 to 200 dollar difference between the 770 and 780 tho. Is it really Needed? I mean I suppose I could save up and do it if it is needed. Only way for me to justify it tho would be 150 dollars now saving me money on future upgrading to make a 4k monitor work as intended.

It is funny how 200 dollars isnt alot of money until you have to add it onto the end of 500.

    Re: Gigabyte 770gtx Windforce 2g or 4g

I advise going straight for 4gb editions of everything now. Games are eating VRAM like there's no tomorrow and it's a must when it comes to gaming at higher than 1080 resolution.

Cat the fifth has a good point however. The R9 280x is a better buy, prices are also starting to standardise for the card as well now that bitcoin and crypocurrency mining is calming down.

Getting a 280x or 290 or 780 are the best options. Although, seen as you're looking in the price range of a 770 then I would advise a 280x unless you can put up with the cheaper, reference cooled 290's which produce lots of heat. Should you go with a 290 though, you're getting access to a 512 bit bus and 4gbs of RAM which is very attractive when considering gaming in the future.

It also may be an option for you to look at slightly older cards like the GTX 680 and see if you can snatch one of those up for a dearer price than the 770, I think I read somewhere they can also be flashed to have the newer GPU boost 2.0.

Overall, it's your call OP. Good luck.

    Re: Gigabyte 770gtx Windforce 2g or 4g

I ended up going going with the 4g 770. I debated on the 780 but then figured well lets try it out and see just where the next generation of cards will end up. I am confident that it will be enough for one monitor of higher quality. Would also be nice to give it a year or so to see where 4k monitors end up for options.
Thanks for the solid advice. You are both 100 percent correct but I am gonna try this out and plan for my next upgrade so I can do it more informed and with proper savings.
I have a buddy that will buy the 770 off of me when I want to upgrade and I got a decent deal. Clearly doubles the card I currently have for performance. It is all win win for not.
