    Breathing Philips :(

I have 2 brand new Brilliance 109P4 CRT monitors.

One of them is experiencing recently a small action with picture in Horizontal Left - Right movement.

At first since I use mostly Matrox cards and last few days working on machine with ATI (AIW9800) card...

I was under impression that is to blame due to present ATI setup, one that is with setup resources far more inferior compared to Matrox desk.

But the moment I've returned to Matrox machine, it was obvious that monitor is breathing horizontally in Left - Right movement. This is particularly (obviously) visible when you look at each side of the screen. Not to mention that this also makes (after some time) a wavy sensation to read and work with machine.

This happens with both inputs on monitor.

Some would probably say that this is not so terrible in visible sense, but this is not something that looks healthy for brand new monitor and it could progress only more in the future

Any of you had similar behavior with you monitors?

I gather I must take this for service or replacement? (barely 3 months old)

Sounds like it's faulty mate. There's nothing nearby that could be putting out interference is there? Like a cordless phone or something.

    Thanks guys,

There are small Creative speakers up behind on desk, but we are talking micro speakers

I also have Tannoy studio monitors but almost 300mm away, and besides, they are shielded.

What is also alarming is the manner how this anomaly stabilizes after a break period of say 2 hours, then cycles becomes longer, even a hour will pass without one single movement.

So on my way to service I take ?

Have you tryed runing the monitors on there own - alot of people dont' realise how much RF monitors really put out - and they create huge magnetic fields, which often interfear with each other ... I have to run my 3rd monitor on 60Hz as otherwise it makes my main 21" monitors picture wobble.

    No,no..

Each is working independently with other system.

One with PC on one side of the room, other with Mac on other side.
They are separated, because I use Apple Cinema display for general work.

Benign reaction to fridge magnet is one thing and speaker magnet is another in my case.

My Tannoy monitors are shielded so they can be right next to CRT and in this case they are not.

As for Creative speakers, come on. We are talking micro speakers with pocket magnets

jUsT to get some idea how this is away...look at the picture >>> http://s02.imagehost.org/0691/Philips10-11-04_2256.jpg

Sorry about the quality of the pic, I left camera in the car, and too lazy to get it now while I write.

    Absolutely m@ttz,

This particular one is used for two machines.
One in the sig and other one a small server with AMD K6 using Matrox G200.

This monitor is going first thing Monday to service.
They told me it requires a fine tuning of optics but if that proves to be indication of some problems whose nature is more serious considering this is brand new monitor.
I will get a new one

Philips are normally a good company to deal with, hope it works out for you.

And Myth why do we care that your TFT works perfectly? There are lots of situations where a CRT is preferable.
