R9 290X MSI 4G Gaming Twin Frozr vs Gigabyte Windforce 290x

Hello Gang,

Im not sure which one is better in terms of keeping the card cool, (I don't care about noise and music/headphones ambient noise drowns it out)
Can run a 4k monitor (I've read max output for Twin Forzr is 2k which seems weird as its a 4k ready card??) As I can upgrade when prices drop a bit
Best overclocking?

Practically identical, both top tier brands, get whichever is cheapest imo.

both are around the same price. so that's not really an issue just thought one might pull above the other, playing battlefield 4, gaming etc.

here is what is best for each catergory
overclocking: gigabyte
sound: MSI
power consumption: MSI
performance (un OC): gigabyte
case compatability: MSI
compatability: gigabyte
heat: gigabyte
design: (personal choice but i prefer the msi design.

overall i prefer the gigabyte.

Both cards have the same clocks and both have excellent coolers, so I don't believe there is any difference in performance. There might be when overclocked, but that is largely pot luck and you can't tell which will be best until you buy.

If you are buying from Scan get the MSI because it's the only custom card in stock!

been reading up that msi has the better memory, and best all rounder and the gigabyte doesn't live up to expectations.

I've hear the MSI is quieter for the fan noise, and its shorter. Gigabyte can pose problem with smaller cases due to the length

Msi does offer much better overclocking feature with there cards which could be useful if you like that kind of thing

I bought the Gigabyte R9 290 Winforce a few weeks ago, which has the same cooler as the 290X. I have to say I was disappointed with how noisy it was. Even at idle it was audible, but what really irritated me was how the pitch & volume of the card would increase & decrease in a game, depending on how hard it was having to work. I ended up sending it back, unfortunately. I'd be interested to hear what someone who owns the MSI Twin Frozr 290 or 290X thinks of its sound profile, though?

As a windforce owner, I want to say that gigabyte's fan profile is awful. The profile they have is basically temperature=fan load%, after using it for a while, I realised that 40% is sufficient to keep it cool and silent
