Matrox M9140 graphics card

I'm looking at upgrading from a dual display to a quad display. I was wondering on your thoughts on this graphics card.

Do Amazon deliver graphics card by Royal Mail, Hermes or HDNL? I'd rather buy elsewhere if its a case of the later two.

Wouldn't be easier for you to go for a modern professional graphic card? Like a FirePro or Quadro? Just asking. Btw, what monitors you have or plan to have for the quad-display setup?

I think delivery from Amazon rather depends from the seller. Amazon carriers

The M9140 is unnecessarily expensive!
If you only need 3 monitors, look at the Sapphire HD6450 Flex. You MUST have Windows 7 !

Firepro v4900 is decently priced but can only support 3 monitors and you need Windows 7 as well for that AMD Eyefinity feature. Might as well get the HD6450.

You could do it with an AMD Eyefinity card with support for 4 monitors, or alternatively a pair of AMD/nVidia cards. Should be a lot cheaper.

And I don't think you get to choose who Amazon ships with - they use multiple carriers and it's just luck which one your order is assigned to.

When he said he is after a quad monitor setup I thought he was after something professionally supported. Could you have 4 monitor setup with like 2x HD6450 in two separate slots?

Monitors are 4x Dell E228WFP.

I prefer a single card rather than two cards. My system is very old - I only have a AMD FX-60 CPU. I just need more desktop space as I'm working from home at the weekends.

'Superior' is a relative term. The one OilSheikh mentions is superior since it can handle four monitors. But in terms of 3D gaming performance? No, according to the BoFox (who compiles this VoodooPower rating thing - now on AT forum but previously elsewhere I believe) it is around 15 times slower!

Whether that makes any difference to 2D usage under Windows is another question. Probably not.

Oh, forgot about one other thing!

You can buy USB to DVI or VGA adapters. They cost about £25 each. Startech are one manufacturer who make them. You cna diasy chain them and have multiple monitors.

This might be your best option.

Just bought a EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 Superclocked ACX 2GB. DVI splitter only supports mirroring not two independent displays on each port?

Have I just wasted time and money on new graphics card?

What does the drivers say? I think it depends on the type of DVI port you have. On my phone I can suggest little right now while on the road :-P

EDIT: Looking at the pictures of your card, the DVI ports appears to be dual link which despite of general thinking dual-link DVI does not mean you can hook up two monitors to one connector. Dual-link means double the signal, that way monitor resolutions over 1920x1200 can be supported or you could use a 120Hz monitor. (EVGA GeForce GTX 760 Superclocked plus DVI Wiki). As of any nVidia 760. I think (but I will need somebody else to support me on this) you will need to use all four ports to operate 4 displays in extended mode...? Sorry. Awaiting further input for other members.

Sorted. I mistakenly thought that DVI splitters would give 4 independent displays. I made a trip to Scan this afternoon and bought a HDMI to DVI converter cable and a DisplayPort to DVI. All sorted now.

For the record can I just say that I think USB graphics is rubbish. My system is now restored to stability.
