The best one cost's more than what you said you are willing to spend.
2 choices, X800 series or 6800GT. Minimal differences, similar performance. Can't go wrong with either.
I'd go for a 6800gt, they have been getting good reviews
i meant best for £300
but the thing is there are so many types, sapphrie, connect3d etc
which one is good
could ne1 gimme a direct link to one?
sapphire are good, maybe even the best
Well for that money you either get a X800 pro or a 6800 gt.
Since the pro is 12 pipes and the gt is 16 pipes, id go with the GT, they both take 1 power connector......
what does pipes meanQuote:

Not sure on exactly on what the term pipeline (pipe) means exactly my understanding of it is the more pipelines you have the more information (texture images graphics) can be moved at a time.
So the more the better
9800 pro has 8 graphics pipelines
9600 pro has 4
X800 pro has 12
X800 XT has 16
The higher the better, but also the speed of Core and memory are also important and also other features of the video card are important too like size of onboard ram 128mb or more.
So it's not all clear cut.
judging by the reviews ive read, the sapphires are the best ones
mmmmm sapphire x800xt pe
/me drools
Not within £300 budget though JimmyBoy.
You are looking at either a x800pro of 6800gt, manufacture is really just about bundle (and sometimes custom heatsink).
I would go for either a 6800gt or x800pro with vivo (the Video In Video Out ones can sometimes be modded to xt).
If you are going to just buy one and don't want to bother with modding/clocking it in anyway I would opt for the 6800GT. Even though it is the slower in Half Life2, generally across the board it is the faster of the two.
If you don't mind a little modding then go for the X800pro VIVO as 95% of the mod to 16 pipes and then clock to near XT PE speeds. If you run at high res with AA & AF then this also slightly favours the ATI cards.
pcwcc does BFG 6800gt for £256, which is great value, some people said the fans stick, but for that money you can get a 3rd party cooler as well.
i definately know that the GeCube x800 mods to 16 pipes,
a mate of mine got this one and has done it.

i'd save the money and wait for pci-express
