Maybe you put the detail too high , does it happen on even the lower settings?

Look at steam, update released for jittery graphics in HL2 quite a few people suffer from this problem, don't know if the patch works or not via steam as I ain't installed it yet. Defreg your HD to as it seems to run fine up until the hard drive becomes fragmented.

9800pro should play the game on high settings with aa no problem, works fine for others who have the same card

I find that the CPU is the bottleneck in my system for playing things like HL2

JtR, what are your sys specs? I'm also running a 9800pro and although i've only just started playing ( to see if the steam download worked), i can run in 1280*960 with 48AA and 8*AA and it seems ok. Let us know your other components and im sure we can find the bottleneck

Also there is apparently a jitter bug in hl2, something to do with the sound, and if you put sound qual low, then it helps. Mind you i havent had this prob (fingers crossed). Also get the 4.12betas, as they help give you a decent performance boost. Ive dled them but not put them in yet as im still playing d3 and want to complete it first.

    Phew. Try all that then.!!!

I have 3GHz Pent 4 PC with loads of space on HDD yet I cant even run it smoothly on 800x600 with AA off or on

Ive tried dl the latest driver but it made no difference. Also since installing, all my programs run slow which points to driver probs

Im lost now, havent a clue what to do now, ANY advice would be much appreciate

That will probably be the problem then. HL2 needs a minimum of 256Mb of RAM. Try reducing the texture quality. It might help. Idealy though you will need to buy some more RAM.

How long have they been like that? quite a while, then probably because of the amount of mem also.

What did you want to know ? This ?

    3.0 GHZ Pent 4 512MB RAM ??

When playing the game, I have tried it with NOTHING else running, even disconnected broadband & turned off Norton - still no different even on 800x600 res :0(

Coming to wish I'd stuck to Xbox. I have played other games on PC ok like Call Of Duty & online too but HL2 is jittery as hell

It's a problem with HL2 not your PC,the jittering seems to come from HL accessing the cached sound files from the harddrive.Your going to have to wait with the rest of the planet for a fix for it.
