    Old 8600GTS vs integrated graphics

So my Dad is looking to get himself a new computer and hot off the heels of my first successful build I'm apparently the one to build it for him! He just wants it for basic internet browsing, playing music, office etc.

I have an old Dell XPS desktop which has a 256MB Geforce 8600GTS graphics card in it but was planning on getting an i5 4690 for the build. So I was wondering whether you guys know if the integrated graphics on the i5 processor are better than the old GTS card. I guess it's not hugely important since he shan't be doing much (if any) gaming on the computer but I figure might as well get the best possible as otherwise I'll be getting rid of the old card!

Should help out. Maybe a mobile link :\

I would guess the igp is better, quieter and more power efficient.

Cheers, yeah looks like there is negligible difference really, the 8600 seems to be one tier higher but I guess the efficiency and heat reduction from not having a full card in the machine wins out.

If it's just a general purpose home machine, perhaps do an APU build rather than using the i5; the IGP in an A10 should beat an 8600gts fairly easily, especially if you use fast ram, and it'll be cheaper than the i5.

For web browsing, music and office (Unless mega spreadsheets) I can't see even a recent celeron (Bay trail ones excluded!) being limiting.
