    660GTX to a 770GTX? Worth it?

As the title suggests I'm trying to get opinions on if it's worth it, I'm quite out of touch with GFX cards these days so need a bit of help.

Scan have this on Today Only with to me seems like a reasonable buy, will it be worth the money over the 660? Or is there a better card out there for round about the same money?

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-e...roductId=76040

    Thanks.

The R9 280X is the red team card most comparable with the 770. Novatech are currently selling them for £169.99 too.

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/c...21-00-20g.html

Either would be a decent upgrade over a 660.

    Re: 660GTX to a 770GTX? Worth it?

I think in terms of performance gains of a GTX770 over the GTX660 you might expect to see:

Gaming: Around a 14% improvement over the GTX660.
Benchmarks: Around a 14% improvement over the GTX660.
Compute: Around a 14% improvement over the GTX660.

Overall: Around a 12% improvement over the GTX660.

In Battlefield 3 you might see a gain of around 34% higher frame rates at 1080p, Ultra quality + FXAA High, going from 82.5 to 126.2 fps.

My figures are based on this, in case you're wondering. If you are unhappy with the performance of your 660 and willing to spend out on the 770 then it would be worth it, IMHO.

My word. I didn't realise the 280X had dropped to ~£170. That's a cracking buy considering the price of the 770GTX. Two of them in crossfire beats a 780Ti on most things comfortably, and at a much lower cost.

    Nice

    It'll be a massive improvement.

    However, a 280x for £170 is a steal - same overall performance as a 770.

The GTX770 is way overpriced. For the same money you can have an R9 290 that will thrash a GTX770 into next week, or save a fortune and buy a R9 280 that will match it.

Yes it will be worth it. A 770 can max out 1080p.

Not worth the money at all.

I suspect he means that games can be played, with playable frame rates, at the highest possible quality settings and 1080p resolution, but this is a generalisation, while it would be true of many current games I'm sure there will be some that don't play as well as others.

Indeed, I did gather what he meant but it seemed a vague comment and was trying to get a bit more detail

I was just about to post the same link until I saw your post

It is a very noticeable jump in FPS. I'd also advise a little caution in regards to the Novatech offer on the basis that there have been some quality issues raised with the fans. I looked into the card when I saw that offer and I was a little put off.
You often need to take some internet reviews with a pinch of salt but I did wonder why it was so cheap and the reviews on Amazon and Newegg don't inspire confidence. It was roughly 50/50 for positive and negative reviews on both sites. It is a tempting price though

Another vote for the red team here with the suggestion of maybe considering the r9 280x 3GB. If you're playing BF4 you can take advantage of Mantle. You also get the "Radeon Gold Reward" which gives 3 free games from a certain range I believe.

I would say that it is only worth the upgrade if you can not play any games you want to with your current one.

Wait until the next generation comes out and this one drops in price. You can get a better card than a 770 and then it would definitely be worth it

    Re: 660GTX to a 770GTX? Worth it?

I was going to wait, but then I saw a 4GB Gigabyte Windforce OC GTX 770 for £199, and I couldn't resist it.

If you see a bargain at that level, it makes sense. It's very unlikely that the equivalent card (GTX 860?) will be any cheaper than that this year, and a GTX 770 will give you comfortable performance for quite a while. I'm going to enjoy my card for now and wait to see what happens to the prices of Maxwells, and then I can pick my moment to sell this 770 and use the money towards something more spectacular.
