Evga Titan Black SC vs Hydro Copper

    Hi everyone!
This is my first post, so please bare with me. I'm thinking of upgrading my 2 GTX 760 SC ACX to a single Evga Titan Black. I already water cool my cpu and also want to add my graphics into the loop. The main reasons are I've had a few problems with the cards running hot due to the acx fans recirculating the heat inside my case rather than venting it out the back like the reference coolers do. I've also had problems with sli failing to ultra-boot my system so now prefer to go for solo but more powerful card. The thing is I'm not sure whether to go for the super-clocked + an EK block or the hydro-copper as both cards are not that much different in price from Scan at the minute if I go for the signature cards. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Evga Titan Black SC vs Hydro Copper

    I'm new too... Yay.

So the Hydro copper has a higher factory OC, which doesn't mean you can't manually overclock the SC card with an EK block on it, but the way I think it works is that when EVGA get the cards they test all of them to see what their limits are and the best ones get hydro copper water blocks on them (in this case) and the not-so-good ones get sold with reference coolers and a lower clock speed. The gist of this is that even though the SC and the Hydro copper are similarly priced, the SC might not be able to overclock to the Hydro copper level, because if it could have done, it would have been sold as a Hydro copper. Please will someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't think there will be a huge difference between the EK-FC780 GTX Ti and the Hydro copper in performance anyway, considering it will cost you an extra £75+ for the block. My advice would be to go for the Hydro Copper.

This is a bit of a moot point anyway as both the SC signature and the Hydro Copper singature cards are out of stock on Scan at the moment, so you just might want to go for whichever one comes in stock first

I see where ya coming from bud & couldn't agree more. I suppose I could always get the hydro copper & see how it goes. If I'm not happy with the block I could always upgrade it with the EK one. Its just I have read on other forums that the hydro copper doesn't cool the VRM's as well the EK which could cause the card to throttle back. The other negative I've read is that the hydro copper block is a lot heavier than the EK FC780 Ti & has been known to slightly bow the card. It's just a shame EK don't do a dedicated backplate with the TITAN BLACK logo on it, but then again the hydro copper is supplied with a backplate already installed. Even though I personally think EVGA cards are some of the best if not the best I've owned & can't fault my experiences with their customer support, they do have a lot to learn when it comes to them delivering on time to their UK suppliers as SCAN have already been waiting 3 weeks for their delivery of the SC Signature Titan, so for that reason I'm think I'll wait a few days to see if the hydro copper comes in on time on the 23rd when it's due.

What are you going to be using your rig for? If it's mainly for gaming you can save some money by getting a GTX780 Ti, these come very close to Titan performance levels and with the overclocked cards they beat them but they are a fair deal cheaper.

I agree, if you want a good upgrade from your 760 then the 780ti seems the best choice. titans are overpriced anyway

If it's for gaming I'd much rather get a reference 780Ti and a nice block for it, no need to throw money at a Titan Black just to play games.
