Fan Issues with MSI GTX970 Gaming 4G graphics card

Just a bit of a 'heads up' for owners of the MSI GTX970 Gaming 4G graphics card. There's currently a bit of an issue with the fans, and NVidia's two recent Windows drivers - versions 344.48 and 344.60. The fans are supposed to remain off when on the Windows desktop, but when either of the two recent drivers are used, they spin up for about two seconds, every thirty seconds or so. It's not a serious issue, but all that starting & stopping over a long period might not be good for the fans lifespan. Until Nvidia & MSI sort out this issue, the easiest workaround is to revert back to the 344.16 drivers.

My MSI GTX970 does this too, well it did on .48, not checked on .60 but I can't see it being a big issue really. They only spin up to a really slow speed so it's not like it's going from 0RPM to full RPM which I would be a bit concerned with.
I'm not insane. My mother had me tested.

True, but it will happen approximately twice every minute whilst the PC is in Windows. I tend to have my PC powered on for most of the day, so if it were to continue that way for months at a time, it might possibly have a detrimental affect on the fans. Plus the fact I find it annoying that they're not working the way they're supposed to!

Interesting that its only MSI, what are they doing that wouldn't affect the other manufacturers?

I think it's a problem with the vbios in the MSI card. There's a thread about it here:

    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=184333.0

There is a third-party Maxwell vbios tweaker utility which can apparently get around the issue, but hopefully MSI will release an official fix sometime soon...
