    9600 Pro to X800 Pro....the truth

Cos I'm a nice chap, and cos my friend at work was having grief with his PC, I agreed to swap (for a week) my X800Pro with him.

I know he expected a big leap. I know he had high hopes.

But the improvement was BIGGER than he thought. Much bigger.

Today, after only 2 days gaming, he had a grin that he just COULD NOT wipe off.

and tonight I get to install his 9600Pro into my machine for a week.,

    Oh JOY

If YOU know someone with an older card, why not swap. For a week. It;s eye opening for BOTH parties!

The eye opener could go on for a bit if he nicks it lol

    Cards I've owned
    TNT something
    Geforce 2
    Geforce 4 Ti 4200
    Geforce FX 5200
Hopefully, come xmas, my new XFX 6800GT should blow those out of the water. You must trust your m8 a lot to be letting him borrow an expensive card like that.

I went from a 9600pro to a 6800nu. The difference is def justified. If I manage to get it softmodded then I'll be even happier.

Yeah.... Having had a 9600 non pro, a 9800SE (that wouldn't soft mod) and now a 9800 Pro that overclocks quite nicely there's a pretty big difference between the first two and the latter. Can't imagine going from a 9600 pro to an x800 pro - that ought to be noticeable in just about anything that actually uses 3D nevermind the boost he'd get in IQ

i wasnt smiling at all.....it seemed the same...but faster? maybe i should play with all the eye candy on as well..

I have to say I'm really disappointed with the performance leap from Ti4200 128mb to 6800 Vanilla. If wasn't for the fact that my card's passive, and the whole PCI-E / BTX standards shennanigans are in flux, I probably would have gone for an top of the range ATI card.

I went from a GF4 Ti4200 to 6800GT, performance improvement is amazing I can actually use the image quality tab (AA, AF) in the drivers now
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

I went from a 9800Pro to an X800XT & my fps on CS:Source video stress test increased nearly threefold on max settings
