X800 to replace X700?

now THATS gotta hurt the nVidia road map a tad.

If X700 is gonna just get flushed, and a 12 pipeline X800 (like mine) will be their mid ranger....

Indeed, a really good upgrade for anyone running 9700 and 9800.

Will be good to see real world avaliability of both this product and NVIDIA parts.

If the rumours are to be believed, NVidia have a native 12 pipe design lurking in the wings too. If in fact the X800 is an X800XL with four pipes disabled, then it might a)softmod and b) overclock superbly. ATi's previous .11 micron part, the X300, frequently gets well over 500MHz on the weedy stock cooling.

also isn't the x800xl meant to have 256mb of ram... That might make it awee bit better. If the roumors on pricing are true then these will compete with the 6600gt and 6800nu respectivly. And with 4 more pipes in each it is going to be happy day for those of us spending sensible money

It's cheaper, and it uses a new core built on .11 micron process technology.

Dammit, just make a 'Top Range' card, a 'Mid Range' card and a 'Low Range' card and stop giving them stupid names and numbers which represent nothing and could be in any particular order what-so-ever and replaced at any time to excite people into spending even more money!!

hmm, im still gonna wait for the benchmarks to come out, i aint a fan boy of anything, more of a quality searcher and the fact remains, it is still going to be based on a GPU that supports Direct x 9b while the 6xxx supports 9c, ATi's next generation cards are gonna have to be something very special for me to change sides with Nvidia currently
