Advice needed: Crossfire with dual monitor
I have a pair of 24" LCDs at 1920x1080, with total screen resolution 3840x1080.
These are powered by a single AMD Radeon HD 7850 (OC version).
I am in the market for an graphics upgrade and I have decided Crossfire is probably the way to go. A pair of keenly priced R9 280X is the likely set up.
What is the best way to set up 2 cards with 2 LCDs? Which one make better sense?
1) Crossfire set up - power the LCDs via the ports on the primary card? or
2) Non-Crossfire set up - 2 single cards powering an LCD each.
Many thanks.
Cheers, spikegifted.

If you want to use the second card to increase gaming performance, then you must use Crossfire.
Re: Advice needed: Crossfire with dual monitor
if your only planning on playing on 1 screen then the single 280x will be sufficient. Playing across 2 screens is a pain as you have to deal with the screen borders being in the middle of the screen. My advice either stick to 1 screen for gaming or go for 3 screen eyefinity and then you will need 2 cards to achieve a good frame rate.

For the price of 2x280X you could probably get a R9 290X, which would be my recommendation. :)

Unfortunately, I lack the real world desktop real estate to have 3 screens. Otherwise, Eyefinity is very attractive.

Good call. I think a 290X is the way to go. Thanks.
