Buzzing noise starts after closing games on Asus Strix 980.
Hello. My graphic card is Asus Strix 980 and Psu Corsair 750RM. But i have a problem. I can play 24 hours without buzzing noise. Everything is fine when i am playing. But when i close game and then ( on idle ) after couple of seconds i can hear a buzzing noise coming from i think GPU. When fan slowly goes from RPM 50% to 0% and on 0% i can hear buzzing noise. Noise goes away after 1-2 second.Sorry for my bad english. Its something bad with card then? Generally after I've played a game it seems to start making noise, so as soon as I've shut down the game the noise starts. Noise goes away after 1-2 second. Simply when I go back to windows and the card fans decrease to 0%, buzzing noise starts and after 1-2 seconds disappears completely.
Let me be absolutely clear. The noise does NOT occur while I am playing.
Could it be a noise produced by the heat pipes cooling down? Other ideas?
Obviously the noise is not much of a problem, but I am worried that it could be the telling sign of problems to come (the computer, however, has so far worked very well).
I am thankful to every soul who would help me with this little puzzle.
What can it be, something wrong with card?

Mines fine but a m8 has a 970 Asus that had this issue, he RMA'd it and the new ones ok.
Re: Buzzing noise starts after closing games on Asus Strix 980.
He had buzzing noise after finishing gaming ( on idle )? Or while playing?
My problem is whenever i quit game and on desktop after a couple of seconds i can hear buzzing noise. Then after 2 seconds noise goes away.
Re: Buzzing noise starts after closing games on Asus Strix 980.
I have noticed a electronic buzzing noise coming from what I think is my Asus Strix 980 as the noise has only become apparent since installing it.
It always happens after I have been playing games and the card is cooling down.
It only usually lasts 2-3 seconds. It almost sounds like a buzzing noise ( wasp noise bzzzzzzzz ).
And it's never under load. It just buzzing noise after card its been used heavily.
Any ideas what it is?

If it's a high-pitched sort of buzzing, then that is probably coil whine.
Most high-end cards experience coil whine to some extent, or under certain conditions.
Typically, if you run something like Unigene Heaven 4 for benchmarking, when you shut that down and it displays the credits screen, you get coil whine at that point. It then immediately ceases once the screen and app close completely.
This is basically the card processing at a thousand frames per second for a couple of moments. I don't get the full reason behind what it's doing, but it's perfectly normal and just how it works.
Some people lessen the whine by coating their coils in hot-melt glue.
If the buzzing rises and falls in pitch then it may be something else...

What do you mean ?"If the buzzing rises and falls in pitch then it may be something else..." Can you explain? Maybe i have that.
Re: Buzzing noise starts after closing games on Asus Strix 980.
Given the short duration and the fact that it only occurs when the fans ramp up or down, it sounds to me like the fans develop a resonance at a certain RPM-range. It could be coil whine too, but I've never encountered that so I couldn't say. Fan resonance I've had on a couple of cards though, and it presented just as you explain. Neither issue is a problem in terms of the function of the card, but can certainly be annoying.

I have a question to be sure if it is really coil whine. Mine noise dont immediately ceases. Its slowly dissapear ( like air from baloon ). It can be coil whine too or not? Something like this:

My Jetstreams did it before i took the fans off. Its just the fans stopping

To test you could stop the fans for a short time when it happens. I would say it's most probably coil whine though.

It's pretty self-explanatory...
If it goes up in pitch like a car engine going faster - Starts as a low, bassy rumbling, then gets to a high-pitched squeal...
As for the something else - Pick any component that either has coils and/or rotating parts: CPU, cooling fans, water cooler... possibly even your hard drive.

Can you explain me why it's never under load? It always happens after I have been playing games for such time and after quit game it happen on windows when card cool down. Its coil whine\buzzing for 2 seconds on windows? Its not normal?!

Coil whine is normal because all coils resonate. Every single one. That's just what they do.
Whether you can hear it or not and the pitch/volume of it is down to the build quality of the coils, the insulation (if any), the exact conditions under which they are used and how good your hearing is.
Do me a favour - Download Heaven 4 (it's free) and run a benchmark, then close the app. Get Fraps or ShadowPlay (both also free) or something to display your FPS.
If the sound you're getting on the end credits screen is the same and your FPS goes insanely high (as in 2000+), then it's definitely coil whine and perfectly normal. Some cards whine more than others. You can limit the card's FPS to 90 or so in an app such as Afterburner, which may help.
The card will be under load in-game and during benchmarking, but processing at something like 60-120fps. When you get coil whine, it's processing at many many more fps (literally hundreds, if not thousands). Why it happens on what looks like a static page, I don't know... I believe it's to do with the momentary change in stress that the card is under (ie going from full-chat and processing away to suddenly having nothing to process but still with all cylinders firing).
A couple of seconds in Windows isn't much of a worry, that I can see. If it continues in Windows, with nothing else running, for quite a while (as in 10 seconds or more) after everything is closed then it's probably something else and you may have a defective card or other component.

Its something like buzzing + hissing slowly dissapearing ( like air ) . I think its not coil whine, something its wrong.
And its happens always when i quit game after some time, then after couple of seconds in windows that noise is starting and goes away after 1-2 second. Some component is faulty?
