    DVI for CRTs?

thinking of saving up for a new monitor and i just wondering this. does anywhere make decent/normal priced crt's that have DVI instead/aswell as vga port? i dont know if quality would be as good/sharp as its suppost to make tft's, but is there any reson why DVI seems to be tft technology only?

currently my monitor is very crap and is 2nd on my list for replacing.

Looks like it didn't catch on, probably with the cost outweighing any benefits, as a crt is an analogue system anyway.

for a dvi crt the digital input system has to be translated into analogue anwyay so the benefist are very small

in tft... everything is digital... vga means the the digital signal is translaetd into analogue within the gfx card and retranslated into digital for display purposes thus loss of clarity etc

so in the tft world digital makes a difference... crt no

Dont quote me on this but i think Silicon Graphics had DVI on their monitors, but thats proffesional quality with a price tag to match.

As Axion said DVI only serves a perpose with TFTs.

The best you will get from a CRT monitor is with the use of RGB BNC. This provides the most direct and clean analgoue singal, each colour signal is idepentant which avoids leakage and so on.

BNC is fairly rare these days, but if you find it, it will give you the best of a CRT screen

    cabling also helps

shielded cabling with very pure wiring (copper... silver... or gold ) will improve picture quality

images are made on a graphics card digitally. with VGA they are converted to analog, with DVi they are left as is. for a CRT to display images, it needs to be analog, so using a single-conversion process (VGA) is appropriate. TFTs can only display digital, so a zero-conversion process (DVi) is better than a 2-conversion (VGA)

wouldnt it e better though if monitors themselves done the conversion = no loss from cabling, and all gfx cards had dvi instead of vga... and if ur monitor hasnt got dvi then u can use the dvi-vga converters u get with some cards, like mine
would also save space on gfx cards for more important things

it would be better.. since companies could use better filters inside the monitor... and the signal wouldnt suffer so much from the cabling - that is true

however you cannot revolutionise an ageing, dieing format

it will stal vga as all gfx cards and all crts have them... dvi hasnt even fully taken over the tft world

it wont happen im afraid... no one will pay the extra for TINY TINY gains
