    Smile Opinions Graphics Card Upgrade

Hello everyone, I am new to the Hexus forums and I need some opinions on what kind of graphics card I should get. Right now I have a crappy Radeon 9200 although I can play doom 3 on it.....in the lowest resolutions :

You can see from my sig, what the computer set up is, this is what cards I have been thinking about getting:

    Radeon 9800 Pro
Radeon 9800 SE (then softmod it into pro using omega drivers)
    Radeon 9600 XT
    Geforce 6600 GT

I hope the 9800XT price goes down when the new X850 and X800 series comes out maybe I could get that.

I am looking to spend hardly more than 200.00 USD

    Any suggestions would be appreciated

    - Thanks

The 6600GT would be my personal choice, but if you can find a really good deal on a 9800 Pro then you might want to mull it over.

I would choose a 6600GT - better than the 9800 Pro/XT in almost all tests, it only struggles at the higher resolutions and at AA.

As for the 9800XT, I don't think it will ever be a good deal - barely any performance increase over a 9800 Pro, and a higher price isn't worth it in my opinion.

A 9600XT or 9800SE would really be too slow considering what you can pick up in the market right now.

    Well

I mean if I do get the 9800SE I will probably mod it to a 9800 Pro anyway. I think I will end up getting a 9800 Pro or 6600 GT AGP. Hopefully by the time I get finished beating up on XIII the prices on those two graphic cards will be down by then. I don't know about over there in the UK or what not but here there is like a shortage on 9800 Pros I swear! And I am not buying retail its way too much. THanks for everyones input.

Ok I have narrowed my choices down to two:
    Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB for $245.00
    http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0172940

    Or

    Nvidia 6600 GT 128MB
    http://www.buyxg.com/store/item.asp?key=VC-145-105

Alright things are getting close now, I will get one of these after my finals are done, the 256MB is at a very good price. But I think that is the real long card though it goes by this manufacturing number 100-435105 here is a pic: http://images10.newegg.com/productim...102-361-12.JPG

I'd go for the 6600GT - it's a more recent card, and beats the 9800 Pro in almost all tests, only struggling when the resolution and AA get turned up.

nah, errm, i do hear those 6600's are pretty good, but people say it beats the 9800 pro until u put the res and aa / af up, surely if it cant perform with these things boosted then the 9800 p is the better card ??

im not trying to be all i love ati here just im a little confused with that....

    Grrrrrr

Ahhhh ATI is really irritating me with all these PCI-e cards, what about us with AGP!!!!!

Now I just have seen the prices for the new series:
    http://techreport.com/reviews/2004q4...l/index.x?pg=1

I hope the AGP version of the X800 Pro gets down to $200.00!!!! I would get that. Mannnnnn if i had PCI-e I would get the X800 but I don't. This sucks. I bet ATI feels kind of sorry about not having that PCI-e to AGP bridge or what not. Or maybe just I feel sorry
