Radeon 9700 Pro or Geforce FX 5800

It appears my FX 5600 XT is a pile of useless garbage and despite my overclocking attempts (see sig) the piecec of rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishe is still unmotivated!!

And so, my birthday is coming up next week
(please PM me for my addy to send all a64's and large HD presents to )

Anyways i should have a packet of dosh by the end of it (or at least a handful) and so i am going to buy a new card, now plz guys, as much as i value your knowledge, do not turn this into a 9800 Pro thread... AVOID mentioning 9800 whatsoever!
The two cards that need your vote are:
    Nvidias Geforce FX 5800 (£220 pre-owned)
ATI's Radeon 9700 Pro with poweful Artic Cooling (£170 Pre-owned)

Both these cards are 2nd hand in watford, and so, as you know online buying aint my thing so which card shall it be, and furthermore... how does one go about rigging these cards to a power supply? I have never moved away from nvidia, and none of my cards have had enough oomph to require a molex connection... so get voting!

Defenetly the 9700PRO, with that cooler it does certainly 9800pro speeds and if not it's still faster then the 5800 !

Cheers, i was the first to vote that card myself firstly its cheaper and secondly the cooler is nice still im slightly afriad of the preowned bit considering i bought a preowned audigy platinum ex and im returning that against it this weekend due to it not being fully complete, missing 2 cables and mic port broken the graphics cards are apparently all tested however

the fx5800 are a pile of sh*te as well m8 get the 9700 but for £170 m8 you can have my rad 9800 with artic cooler lol
for £130 you can get a decent fx5900 which is better than the fx5800 if you wanna go the nvidia route but for £170 you can get a 9800 m8
there ive said it but dont be annoyed as i also said fx5900 as well

yeh.. i agree with CrapshoT.. why the heck are you willing to pay £170 for a 2nd hand 9700pro when a 1st hand 9800pro will set you back less than £150!

check out the bargain hunt section for a couple of threads with some cheap 9800pros in

might be worth waiting til next month when the r400 (ie new radeon gfx cards) should be out. which may drive down the prices some more..

    take care,

    mark

Unforutunately u haven't specified a location, so i cannot send my mini mafia mob to tha toon but thanks for bringing up the 9800 route, now its only a matter of time before all of hexus begins swamping my thread with 9800 pro recommendations and links

Ooo btw could anyone hunt me out a review of the 9700 pro? Although its last gen card, is there a review with some up to date benchies? Or a review of a better card at least showing some other R9700 Pro benchies??

Like streetster said, you'd be better off getting a 9800 Pro over a 9700 Pro when a 9800 Pro is cheaper, faster, and not second hand!

havent really looked hard, sure komplett.co.uk have some decent prices, i'll look in a minute.. but that is £156 including next day delivery... and scan are a decent company saves you money, and you get a warranty... it makes no sense to get a 2nd hand card for MORE money!!

    ok:

    aria.co.uk @ £150 + shipping

    scan @ £156 inc shipping

... oops, read what you said wrong.. but still like blockers says, if you dont want to buy it online (why not? i cant see a reason), i'm sure there are plenty of people who would gladly buy it on your behalf if you sent them the money..

Its not i dont want to, its just mum wont allow me to and plus i dont have a credit card/ cheque book So im going for the best retail thing i can and that is a R9700 pro or a FX 5800... i did see a FX 5700 MSI for £149, but they aint sposed to perform well... if i had the 9700 pro with artic cooling, could i overclock it to juice some more??
And i also spotted there are only around 2 - 3 fps increases between the two cards at stock speeds in some cases

Why not get it from Savastore (Watford Electronics)? The prices are fairly good, and Luton isn't that far away!

wait till you have all the cash then wait till you see one going on here you'd probably get more after sales care from buying on these forums than what you would from your local shop anyway !!!
failing that im sure us nice geezers and girls could sort something out and try and help you get a 9800 pro !!!!!
