You are using the right DVD Decoder S/W and the Driver yes?
I never noticed... I can play 10 Mb/s WMV HD clips with only 10% CPU useage...
EDIT: OMG! Your right! What the hecks going on? All this talk about pure video!
So how will this efect my TV recording with a tunner card?

Tested out my new ASUS 6800GT (256 edition new release) , played every type of vid file for @ least 10-20mins cpu usage doesn't even rise above 25%.
Now do the sames tests again and track your GPU temps. Then try the two DivX HD files above and also the WMVHD 'Step into Liquid' clip, again tracking GPU temps.Originally Posted by utdmleach

The thing is, you can only afford so many core revisions before you start to think "hang on, we're out of time here, this needs to be out." NVIDIA will have made the tough decision of mass producing a core which they knew they'd have video decoding problems with, but were satisfied with on most other fronts.Originally Posted by myth
The only problem is, now they're taking the flak for it. This is fair enough from a consumer perspective, but I'm just trying to create a bit of insight here.
The majority of people aren't gonna want to be watching movies on their pc's, rather playing games. However, for those who spent maybe £300 on a card that they thought would do the job, it's a real kik in the nuts. Despite my initial outrage @ Nvidia's false advertising, the performance in gaming has just blown me away.
Indeed it wouldn't. Any word on what the 'best' drivers are 4 6800GT/U anyone?
In between bouts of tearing my hair out (there's a clumps on the floor), I think so. I'm using 66.93 drivers and Nvidia DVD Decoder v1.00.58. The latter is just the strangest piece of software I have seen for quite some time:-Originally Posted by David
It doesn't have anything close to the features of other media players such as BSPlayer, WMP, WinDVD etc. No subtitle support, no adjustment of video settings, luminence, gain, brightness, DivX settings etc
It then forces you to manually cycle through every folder in your HDD to find the file that you want to play. Doesn't 'remember' what you've selected.
Worst of all, it has the worst user interface I have ever seen. After figuring out how to stop it completely taking over your destkop, it turns out that if you select a sub-menu, eg. system settings, there is no way to return to the main menu using the mouse.
You can ONLY use this software with a combination of mouse AND keyboard (mostly keyboard). So, if you mouse click to select a menu, you have press ESCAPE to go back to another menu. You cannot navigate through folders using the mouse. You have to use up and down arrow keys with the return key. If you set it up to run in a window, there is no way to turn it into a full screen video without windows borders (personally I don't want see my windows task bar when playing a DVD).
You can't jump forward within a movie clip (you can only keep your finger pressed on FFWD). It's truly bizarre. I can't believe that Nvidia have charged for this piece of junk, let alone released it.
Interestingly, playing a the 'Step into Liquid' clip (1920 x 1080 25fps) using the Nvidia DVD decoder, I don't get any dropped frames or stuttering which I get with WMP. So it seems as if it's doing something. Quite what exactly, I'm not sure, I'm still getting the same CPU utilisation with Nvidia DVD decoder/player as I am with the other players![]()

lol i wont be using the decoder anytime soon lol it would be better as some sort of background program when watching hd stuff or anything to do with video anyway
Everyone keeps reffering to the "WMVHD 'Step into Liquid' clip".
Where do ya get it? is it with wmp9/10? (I use MPC for playing all my videos.)
Has anyone tryed MPC - I assume it supposts HD video? I expect it has the same result.
