It's a bit early to make a judgement on the basis of one preorder price, although I agree that is pretty expensive.

ATi I thought were projecting a US$300 price for the X800XL, which at current rates is about £155; even adding VAT it should be coming in at around £183. I'll keep my fingers crossed for 200 or less, but if they do pitch it at that £265 price point, it's not much more to buy an X800 Pro. *scratches head*.

I think they'll actually bring it in lower than that. ATi are pitching to ship early-mid January, I believe?

That makes the XL even more pointless!

same price as a GT and 85% of the performance! PR wins again

I am looking in to this now

Having the XL product priced higher than a Pro ( ) seems 'unusual'

I have had it confirmed to me that we are expecting a street price of $299 in the states...

...I am now trying to chase down an exact price for Europe/UK

It is possible that the local pricing won't be fixed/confirmed for a week or so

I will post back when I have something to say

Andrzej, you are a very nice fellow . Thanks for having a look at this - I'm looking at upgrades in the New Year, and the X800XL's definitely on my "hmmm...maybe, just maybe..." list.

Where exactly is the X800XL supposed to slot into the product lineup? Is it a competitor to the vanilla 6800?

the x800xl is the replacement for the allmost dead x700 range and it's supose to be compeating with the 6600 range for nvidia....but at that price point the 6600 is going to win.

also the x800pro/xt/xt pe is not going to be around for long it's been replaced by the x850 range

The X800XL is essentially a die shrunk X800XT- 16 pipes, 6 vertex shaders, runs at 400MHz. It has 256MB of GDDR3 at 490/980MHz DDR. Should spank a 6600GT, and get close to 6800GT performance for a fair bit less money.

at over 200 quid....yeah right, most 6600's are 150 range.....

I won't spend over that on a gfx card no matter what.
