i would go for the 6600gt

will save you some moneys, then you can spend some more on ram/cpu

have a look at some reviews of both cards and also consider the ATI alternative

If they're both the same price, then the 6800 definately. If you want, you could spend less and get a 6600GT for around £140.

Official Drivers tend to be WHQL Certified which means they've been through Microsofts testing procedure and therefore tend to be a bit more stable that the beta drivers.

Waiting about 2 weeks so that you can see how the new price points settle in and what reaction - if any - the competition makes

(plus you should write a REALLY nice note to Santa and leave milk + cookies near the chimney because - well - you just don't know !)

I am happy to see someone from such a big company listening to us in the forums, but plugging of products is just not on really. The forums are here for people to get balanced views from other, thankfully non fanboy, users. Just remember the warnings that the retek guy got for plugging his company.
    Not around too often!

    I agree in general, but:-

    1. The advise in this instance was to wait a little while longer to see how the new year price shake ups pan out... surely this is a sensible suggestion to make given that the purchaser will need to live with their choice for quite some time after the decision
    2. On another thread, a user specifically asked what could be purchased at a specific price point - to which a specific reply seemed appropriate... PLUS I did also stress that the reply was partisan and that he should seek 'green' advice as well

Overall, I think it would make more sense for any advice that seems inappropriate (based on content - rather than source) to be questioned specifically - rather than using a blanket 'you work with these products 365 days a year - your suggestions are not welcome'

    What do you think ?
