Question Best 3D card that £200 can buy??? :)

    Hi All

Just found out my vouchers on amazon expire today So thought it would be a good time to upgrade my 3D card and quickly ask the experts what they think is
best bang for buck 3D card i should buy for the £200 mark?

Was looking at Asus AMD Radeon R9 290?

Almost certainly will be the 290. It's an extra £40 for a GTX970 and it's not 20% faster.

    PSU will be fine.

Thanks for the quick reply Shaithis. Am also now wondering if its worth spending my vouchers on something else as not sure if i should wait for a 3D card designed for direct x 12?

Been out of the loop for a long time, and its going to be my first upgrade in like 3-4 years...

The 290 has most DX12 features in hardware. They are GCN 1.1 and you can see the DX12 feature support here

Re: Best 3D card that £200 can buy??? :)

is the Asus version alright? As read that card runs hot so want to make sure its not going to run stupidly loud when under load, for the sake of spending a bit more and getting a version of the 290 with better cooling if its like £10 more?

Yeah 290 is a hot runner and yes asus is good. Heard ones like sapphire are good for 290s, may be cheaper. check reviews first though for which is best

Re: Best 3D card that £200 can buy??? :)

Your best choice is 290, the Sapphire is cheaper by £20 at £191.
The last time I had experience of a Sapphire card was when half-life 2 was coming out, and it ran hot and loud.

Would be worthwhile checking reviews, to see how they compare against each other.

EDIT: Had a little peak around: You can pick up a Palit GTX 970 for £230 as an Amazon Warehouse Deal. It's second hand, so would be worthwhile checking the warranty status.
