    Budget Graphics

OK, I'm upgrading one of the kid's shuttles (SB61G) from on-board graphics to AGP.

    £50+p&p is the max spend!

Was thinking 256mb FX5200, but are there any better performers for the dosh?

You could get a 9500 from Retek.

I know I am gonna get massacred for this BUT....a 9200 OEM would be way under budget and you can get something else...maybe more ram if needed?

I'd say whatever card you get is going to be a bottleneck on that system, but a 5200 will be the least £ to Performance.

I second the Retek 9500 or secondhand GF4Ti recommendation. If not, get a 9550 of some description; NOT a 9550SE though.

The Dabsvalue cards appear to have the proper 128bit memory interface, so should perform O.K. (not sure about the low profile one mind).

    Rich :¬)

You can get a 128MB 9600SE that will (IMHO) be way quicker than the competition cards at a retail price point of £39.95 ex vat (£46.94 inc)

However, if you REALLY wanted to splash out - you can still get some 128MB 9800 SE All-in-Wonder cards for around £94 ex

    That gets you...
    - ATI Radeon 9800SE
    - 128MB DDR Memory
    - 256-bit memory interface
    - 4 Rendering pipe lines
    - DVI-I Output, TV-Out, Composite video & stereo audio output, S-Video Output
    - Composite video & stereo audio input, S-Video input
    - Radio frequency wireless remote control
    - Stereo TV tuner (PAL B/G/D/K/I and SECAM L/D/K)
    - THEATER 200™ video encoder and stereo processor

And it (sometimes) comes bundled with full version of Hitman game... so they can learn a profession at the same time

But this is VERY partisan advice - so PLEASE make sure you get some greenies to give you some ideas as well

BTW: I did beg Ross & Dutters to do a comparative review of these products a few months back cos I thought it would be useful (real world !!!) buying advice for Xmas

9550 or something from retek for £50 notes definately. May pick up a 9600pro second hand quite cheap. I imagine people are going to be flogging cards soon after christmas

Stay away from the Fx5200 if you can afford to.
