Question EVGA GTX 970 Superclocked or Gigabyte GTX 780Ti ???

I can get a new EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked ACX 2.0 for £245 or buy a 2nd hand Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 Ti WindForce for £200.

My mate says the 970s are ok but only at 1080p as the memory is gimped. So recommends i go for the 780Ti.

Just wondered what you lot thought?

    Cheers

Re: EVGA GTX 970 Superclocked or Gigabyte GTX 780Ti ???

If you're playing any modern games from about The Witcher 3 onwards then stick to the 970. The 780ti is a beast but nVidia are only just catching on to what looks like a vital GPU method going forwards and cards like the 780ti are massively underperforming.

I hear that the next Gen GPU's from both AMD and Nvidia are coming out next year, wondering if its worth holding out till then... thats if its early next year that is.

Yes, worth waiting. Then worth waiting again for the refresh. Then worth waiting again for the next new products

HAHA yea i thought the same as i was writing it... Only reason i said it as ive been using my AMD 6950 on a core 2 duo qx6700 for so many years so wouldn't mind waiting if it meant a big step up for a few months wait or at least drop the price of the current cards. But who know how long that would be?

Not much of a discount from new, but a saving's a saving I guess.

I'm running a 970 at 1440p and it's fine on all the games I've tried. I'm not running all the games on maximum settings, but then in some games, even a 980 Ti would struggle. Of course future games will no doubt stress the 970 more at 1440p, for for now at least, probably the best value 1440p capable card.

Well Scan are selling it for £260, and for me to get it for £245 i need to buy it through best Spoke, just not sure what will happen if i order it through them as to warranty and what they are like to deal with?

So buy it new for £260 from Scan
or new via best spoke for £245
or 2nd hand off mate for £200.

If you're concerned about warranty then perhaps go for somewhere like Amazon or Aria.

Are you talking about Amazon warehouse or open box deals? If so do you know what the warranty is for them? As seen some good deals but shows 90 days warranty, is that with them then you have a years warranty with the manufacture?

I would have to go with the GTX780TI, but I think the R9 390 beats both.

Amazon have a 1 year warranty on all electronics they sell, new or used.

As for the 970 only being good for 1080p due to it's gimped memory, remember that the 3.5GB of full speed it has is still greater than the 3GB of the 780ti

You have given me a right headache putting the R9 390 in the mix also

The 780TI solidly out performs the 970. Sorry about mentioning the R9 390, but if I was buying a card now that would be the one I would go with.
