Asus Strix 980 Ti - is this reason to rma?

Hello. So first. My case is very old: Cooler Master Centurion 590. Graphic card is Asus Strix 980 Ti.

My side panel case is open. And i am sitting 30 cm near my pc case. With this GPU only on fan speed 45% (from 1300 rpm to 1450 rpm ) i have a very small rattle noise. I must close my ear to card to hear this.

But when i close my side panel of case i cant hear that small rattle. It can be reason to rma if i am hearing this only with opened case and sitting near pc case?

    ps:
My case is open due to get better temperatures.

    Thx for suggestions.

Sounds like a good excuse for a 'restocking fee'.

Buy a new case that has better cooling. You can pick up very good cases these days for less than £50. Having the side off all the time would drive me nuts.

Re: Asus Strix 980 Ti - is this reason to rma?

it's just a small rattle when fan/fans change speed and in my case "sometimes" goes away.
the noise sounds like if the fan is hitting a cable a bit. But of course that is not the case. I checked and all is clear to fan blades.
There is a very small rattle noise ( to hear this i must put my ears close to card ) that occurs while changing RPM to faster or slower. After few minutes when i am in game, it's not a problem because it's usually locked at relatively high RPM.

My case is open. And i am sitting 30 cm near my pc case. But when i close my side panel of case i cant hear that small rattle.

I dont know what to do now. Rma card or not? What you think guys?

Buy a new case. There's nothing wrong with your graphics card.

Why you think that all is ok with card? On other forum they tell me that can be something with fans or bearings because they rattle even a little .

But when i close my side case panel i dont hear that noise. Can you explain me why you thinking that all is ok? thank you Sorry for next question.

Graphics cards contain cheap fans. Sometimes they rattle. That doesn't mean they are broken, just less than perfect.

If you had the side panel on the case as it was designed to be then you wouldn't have even known about a faint rattle. The fan is probably the cheapest part of a gpu. Think yourself lucky it's not screaming away.

Re: Asus Strix 980 Ti - is this reason to rma?

Your very slight rattle simply means the fans aren't absolutely perfectly balanced and the same will be the case with thousands of other cards. Several of my cards have also had a slight rattle and none of them have died for that reason.

Also, if you RMA stuff for utterly pointless reasons you're simply helping to increase prices or keep them high, as the RMA process isn't free and all costs are baked into the price you pay for the end product. You should obviously RMA stuff if you have a genuine reason, but this isn't one of them.

I have had similar issue years ago with my computer, problem was not with gpu but with hard drives making irritating noise especially during the night, I bought something like that VELCRO STICKY BACK on amazon

and it helped but the real problem was that my case was poor quality, I paid like £40 with psu, nowadays I stay only with good cases where everything is well made, and make sure screws are on their places, that can cause problems as well
