Re: Upgrading my EVGA 660
If your psu can handle it, I would go for a r9 390. 8gb ram is well over the required ram for 1080p, however if you were to go 1440p, it would come in handy. Having said that, the 970's come with a free game which is nice.
Re: Upgrading my EVGA 660
Last time I checked they were all graphics cards, so I've moved this thread from CPUs to Graphics Cards ;)
if your choice is a hard "this 970 or that one" and all other things are equal, the EVGA will perform slightly better due to its higher clock speeds. But why not tell us your full specs, budget and target resolution and perhaps we can give you some more balanced advice ;)
Re: Upgrading my EVGA 660
You might want to check this graphics card test for FO4:

Re: Upgrading my EVGA 660
It also depends upon the monitor resolution. If you are running a standard 1920 x 1080 monitor then go for the EVGA GTX 970 FTW+. You'll get better customer support with that card and better support forums.
Re: Upgrading my EVGA 660
Also depends how many monitors you have got, radeons with more memory performs better while running multi monitor setup
Re: Upgrading my EVGA 660
Minimum requirement is the 550. Why don't you try that first and then go for upgrade?
Maybe SLI the 660?
Re: Upgrading my EVGA 660
I was thinking of getting the STRIX edtion because my friend has it and it is incredibly cool and quiet while playing games such as Witcher 3

4GB Asus GTX 970 STRIX Direct CU II OC, PCIe 3.0, 7010MHz GDDR5, GPU 1114MHz, Boost 1253MHz, Cores 1664, DP/HDMI/2x DVI
4GB EVGA GTX 970 FTW+ GAMING ACX 2.0+, PCIe 3.0, 7010MHz GDDR5, GPU 1216MHz, Boost 1367MHz, Cores 1664, 3x DP/HDMI/DVI-I
I'd say get the asus one. The cooler is better and it adds to the card's value :)
Re: Upgrading my EVGA 660
my 290 (not X) is brilliant on FO4 - i was quite surprised to be honest.
Re: Upgrading my EVGA 660
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies. My Budget is about £300.
This is my current spec:
Windows 10 Pro x64
Intel Core i7-3770k @ 3.5GHz
Corsair H100i CPU Cooler
16GB DDR3 (2 x 8GB) 1600MHz Corsair Dominator RAM
256GB Sandisk SSD Plus SSD
128GB Corsair Force SSD
1TB SSHD Back end
MSI Z77a-GD65 Motherboard
All House in a Corsair 750D
I will be playing the games on a Dell Ultrasharp U2412M @ 1920 x 1200 59Hz.
It plays Wither 2 on high perfectly, which looks absolutely stunning on my monitor, so i am hoping for the same experience on The Witcher 3 if i upgrade the GFX Card.
Thanks Guys.
Re: Upgrading my EVGA 660
For that budget, try to find a good 390X sale during the Black Friday period. Currently, they cost a little more than £300, but there is no better card in that price range.
Re: Upgrading my EVGA 660
Honestly both have their merits, if you go either way you wont be dissapointed. Me personally id go with the evga one without the blue accent on the side to colour match my system :D
