So its been out for a while and that whole situation about the 3.5 vram issue has long passed, i was wondering how people are now feeling and their experiences with a gtx 970. Is there any game that struggles to run at high quality setting yet?

Guess not that many plus the reviews are pretty positive (regardless of the 3.5GB VRAM 'limitation'). Even if in 4k. I was playing with the idea of the 970 for a ITX build but I decided to stick with my initial decision of R9 390 (8GB VRAM & async.shaders are all good for the future).
Some 970s can be OC to 980 levels so don't think that performance issues may show up anytime soon.
Same, I went with the R9 390 after a lot of research. It's just better from a future proofing perspective. (This is coming from someone how dislikes AMD cards very, very much... I still bought it.)
Why are you asking? Trying to decide what to get, or having buyer's remorse?
I was deciding on which one to buy. But i mad a choice a few days ago and ordered a r9 390 sapphire nitro should be arriving to day! Cant wait
I have the EVGA GTX970 SSC and haven't had any problems in any games, all games fly along and its a been a very positive experience. The 3.5GB ram thing hasn't been an issue in any game.

I shouldn't think so. Great Card! But this time i'm going for gigabyte gtx 980ti waterforce.
970 runs sweet as anything. AMD looked better for the 4k proofing, but surely there will be another gen of GPUs that can guarantee good 4k performance.
Surely none of today's cards are any use for 4k. Buying a video card for future proofing is a mug's game.
I think decent 4k is another gen away, past the next one. However, that would be for people who prefer over 60hz, like me (now I have a 144hz monitor, wouldn't go back to 60hz most likely).
It's a lot more pixels, after all. On the bright side, some kind of freesync/gsync is likely to be standard by then (and I feel I'm missing that now).

Be Careful on the Internet! I ran and tackled a drive by mining attack today. It's not designed to do anything than provide fake texts (say!)
I too am wondering about the 970. Is it true that if I'm playing only at 1080p 60hz, I'll get minimal returns from higher end Nvidia cards? I imagine that it's not worth it to spend more in my case, right?
Even the 970 is a little overkill for 1080. Definitely not worth spending more IMO.
I've had my gtx 970 for the last few weeks and can say I'm very happy with it. I was looking at the AMD cards, but read they get quite hot so didn't go down that route
Quite comfortably maybe, quiet comfortably, probably not.
I've put a few 970's in Builds for friends.. They have all been perfectly happy with them They've seen no stuttering/slow downs.
When I was doing my burn in test and stability tests I saw no insane vram usage, I hit like 3GB at the most in (I can't remember which game! )
I'm happy with my GPU I have yet to reach the 4gb limit, I'll put it through its paces like Crysis 3, Metro Last Light and wolfenstein and see how it does
