    Question Jerky Direct3D

Ive just installed my FAVOURITE winamp plugin "Monkey - By Ryan Geiss" http://classic.winamp.com/plugins/de...onentId=122208, and Ive had some problems getting it to run smoothly. I think its optimized for NVIDIA, GF2 or more. Now Ive got a radeon 8500LE, so that shouldnt be too much bother, but whenever the lines appear on the screen (to make a wireframe style effect, the framerate jumps down to around 15fps, no matter what the quality setting.

When no blocks/lines are shown, it runs at well above 100fps.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem, or does anyone understand directx well enough to give me a pointer as to what it might be?

I will post pics if anyone wants/cares

    Thanks in advance

Well it needs DX8+ so it won't be optimised for GF2 that's for sure. It probably was designed with GF3 in mind as much DX8 sw was, even so it's most likely just poorly programmed (in terms of efficiency) otherwise I'd look to your DX setting (disable AA+AF etc). It may also depend heavily on the CPU although DX8 should be more GPU bound. Also Rad8500 was a great archy but clock speeds varied heavily, many 8500LE could be as low as 230/333 (230/166) instead of the std 250/500 (250/250) so check your clock speeds (tweaking tools or 3Dmark03) ... and hopefully it isn't Powercolor as they'd probably use 64bit DDR instead of 128bit DDR halving the effective speed!

Winamp AVS is only CPU based - it doesnt use your GPU.

and that plugin doesnt use winamp AVS, its a diferent plugin using hardware, i think?. i ran it for about 5 mins changing all the options etc.. it was ALWAYS between 27 and 30 fps! im not sure what limited it - not even sure even if its d3d or opengl, changing aa/af/texture quality/vsync etc.. in ctrl panel made fa difference

u say u only drop to 15fps in wireframe? im at 30 ALL the time, somming is fked up

    1700+ @ 2.2, 512mb 400ddr, nf7-s, 9700pro... WTF?

also "Jerky Direct3D" is usually caused by hardware cursors (when the fps is definatly above 30, hc can make it look like its a lot lower). these can be turned off by moving the slider on trouble shooting page one to the left...
