21" CRT with DVI connector??

Hi all

I am in the market for a new 21" CRT monitor but as my 6800GT has dual DVI connectors I was wondering if anyone knows of 21" CRT's with DVI connectors instead of the VGA as it will cut out the lark of having convertors for vga-dvi.

I have done some reading saying that NEC, Sony and Iiyama do them but I can't fond any on the usual online shops. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

You may be able to get a DVI to VGA/BNC cable, hence cutting out the need for boat an adapter AND a separate cable. This may help minimize ghosting. http://www.accessorystore.co.uk/acat...tor_Cable.html is an example fo what I'm talking about.

Surely a TFT with a DVI port would be a better option if your buying new or is there a particular need for a CRT?

crt with ghosting....err dood crt do not ghost.

iirc there are no crt with a dvi port only tfts with dvi on them.

Actually CRTs do ghost, but not in the same way that TFTs do. TFTs tend to ghost when you move something around on the screen, while CRTs tend to ghost when stationary - often caused by interference with speakers and the like.

Of course they do! Don't tell me you've never seen a TV with a ghosted image, usually found in Dixons or other crappy high street stores where they can't seem to set their input signals up right. It's caused by interference in the input signal, either outside the monitor or internally.

DVI can carry both analogue and digital signals and both at once. Most if not all DVI graphics card ports will send out both analogue and digital. This is why DVI-VGA adapters are so cheap: they don't have to do any AD conversion, just map pins.

My current crt doesnt ghost at all with the dvi connector for the vga cable adaptor its just that the weight of a vga with a dvi connector is weighing down the card and couls cause problems over time, and its a risk i dont want to take with a 300 quid graphics card as i am sure all can understand.

The reason why i wont go tft is due to the fact i use a desktop of 1600x1200 for graphics development and a tft with the same res would mean the gt card would struggle running 1600x1200 games with full details and full aa and as, At the present time a crt would mean i could drop to 1280x1024 and have full everything without problems with the screen as i would with a tft dropping below the recommended res of the tft monitor. This is the only reason i was looking for a crt with a dvi cable as standard. I know they exist but its like gold dust to track them down From the reading i have done i know that sony do them, i have even had a look round the dell site in hope they had a rebadged sony but i can't find any. I would go for a 1280x1024 tft but for the purposes of the graphics development i do with 3d studio max, maya and opengl coding i prefer the 1600x1200 res.

Just use a DVI-VGA cable like the one I linked to then! Personally I've never seen a DVI-equipped CRT, mainly because CRTs aren't digital so there would be no difference in signal, just physical connector, between a DVI-equipped monitor and a VGA D-sub one. By getting the cable you can choose pretty much any CRT you wish and won't put any weight on the card.

thank you that cable is spot on, i missed the link before, now all i would need to do is fond a monitor that i could use that cable with as not all monitors have the vga port on the back of them, more of them are being built into the units.

I'd imagine any monitor that offers dual D-Sub VGA inputs has a VGA port on the back of them. My Sony G400 certainly does. Just watch it's not a BNC connector for the second input. While I'm sure you'll be able to get DVI-BNC they may be more difficult to track down.

thanks. just lookinh around for a 21" crt with that feature on it as most stores dont show you the back of the units :/

only other option i have got is to get dual 1280x1024 tfts but that will cost a hell of a lot more than a crt

Not only that, but CRTs with digital DVI inputs exist(ed), e.g. NEC's MultiSync FP1350X. Maybe this "superior" technology failed to take off because the analog option supported better resolutions / refresh rates than the digital input. D'oh!
I don't know if NEC still do CRTs with this "Ambix" technology.
