I know a 750 TI will run 1080p but can it run with high or max settings on recent games.

Depends on the framerates you're after! Hexus review of a heavily (> 10%) overclocked model: http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphi...50-ti-ftw-acx/

Gets over 30fps in most games @ high/ultra settings, but struggles to get 60fps in most. Performance is, unsurprisingly, around 10% faster than a stock clocked 750 Ti.

tbh I haven't seen a new 750 Ti for less than £90 recently, and I don't think it's a good buy at that price, as the much faster GTX 950 is available from around £120. OTOH you can pick up second hand/refurbed 750 Tis for around £60, which is probably a decent option if you're budget limited (I managed to grab a non-Ti 750 for my stepson for £42 recently)
