    Is 2mm enough?

For my new build I plan on using Fractal Design Define R5 case and want to insert a R9 390X graphics card. The only thing slowing me down is the case specs say it gives 310mm clearance for GPU's and the specs for the R9 say it requires 308mm.

    Now,2mm is a gap,but is it workable?

Yes,I know I can remove a HDD enclosure for extra space but, guess what,I don't want to

Looking forward to the brains of the forum replying.

Does that clearance allow for cables?

IE, fine, if you are SURE you won't be putting a hard drive opposite the card. But if you might, steer clear.

I usually do relocate HDD enclosures if possible - opposite the GFX never seems great to me.

Good point.I've just gone back to an interior pic and the drive cage are side on and pose no restriction on the GPU.With these review pics it would be easy to forget about cables.Thanks.

    Re: Is 2mm enough?

I'm guessing that's the Sapphire 390X which is the longest one around?

The power connections are on the top as the PCB ends quite a bit short of the end of the shroud/heatsink/fan so they won't affect things, and as the end of the card is shroud and heatpipes you may be able to trim it a little if necessary.

I don't think you can depend on them being measured from the same point though, so you may want to consider a different 390X.

    a) You guess well.
    b) thanks for the input but I must say your last 2 sentences do seem to conflict

    Re: Is 2mm enough?

It does seem silly to choose that particular 390X when all the others have a larger margin of error but if you do have good reason to go for that and it turns out to be 312mm then it may still be something you could modify slightly to fit.
