Particularly good news as it's a 1400W PSU !!!!!. A Taiwanese brand called SevenTeam which I'd never heard off but did some digging around & apparently it's none too shabby. Still not sure I'll actually use it, would rather use one of my more moderate backups that are a known quantity.

1400w lol. You'll struggle to pull half that even with a titan.

    Overkill ftw though.

Exactly what I thought, it's rather pointless really, ..............still the board has the capacity for quad sli so you never know....

P9X79 WS with a hexacore i7 and 24Gb of ram.

Re: Gigabyte GTX Titan Completely Dead, No Power

Damn, hell of a system. Should keep you going for ages if you can get the titan working. Be years before Intel release anything noticeably faster than IB-e. They clock pretty well too in my experience, just as well as the standard Ivy Bridge, if you haven't done it already.

I'd have a good read about Quad Sli before buying though. Microstutters can be a killer, comes down to what you play. Some games never have an issue others are just impossible.

Don't worry not going to go down the sli route, I don't play any games anymore that would warrant a dual card set up let alone quad, have tried it in the past and it's just too much hassle and as you mention micro-stutter can & does rear it's ugly head. If the Titan can't be repaired I'll just stick in the R290 from my current rig and make this my main machine.

Re: Gigabyte GTX Titan Completely Dead, No Power

So I've heard back from Gigabyte re my RMA and it looks like it's a paperweight now.

"I am advised by the repair team that certain chips that control video output to the screen have failed and can’t be replaced".

Because I can't provide a receipt and theres no chance of ever doing so, Gigabyte understandably cant replace the card. Oh well worth a shot I suppose and so I'm going to ask that the card be return too me and I'll see if a friend can solder a replacement inductor on it and see if that helps at all...... but probably not.

Re: Gigabyte GTX Titan Completely Dead, No Power

Sorry but that's pretty poor from Gigabyte. Over on the OCUK forums we have a Gigabyte rep who is constantly going on about how Gigabyte does RMA's based on serial numbers alone and that you don't need a reciept or even be the original buyer to get a repair/replacement. This now shows the stuff he spouts to be bs. Add to that the fact that Gigabyte has been requesting a £15 fee to cover return postage on repaired/replacement boards to the user and it makes me seriously think whether I would choose anything by Gigabyte in future.

the rep on OCUK did go on to say that you need proof of purchase for a replacement, only the attempted repair would be free. The thread is here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=18697860

Re: Gigabyte GTX Titan Completely Dead, No Power

Sounds like something worse than just the inductor, esp if it shorted, allowing unrestricted current through to fry other parts. (there's a small sub pcb, with a chip and some resistors next to that inductor, which AFAIK is the digital PWM power controller and if it's fried or even scrambled it'll be a pain to replace/repair)
A short would also be a likely cause for your psu to shut down and act dead as its protection circuits cut in.

It still might be worth trying to replace the inductor, the worst you could do is make it more irreparable.

EDIT: Thanks for letting us know how you got on and please keep this thread going if you peruse it any further
