Hi, I have decided to get a new GFX card to replace my tired Gainward Ti4200.
I have a KT3 Ultra 2 MSI board and a Athlon XP 2200 (these I am going to upgrade in 2-3 months)
Am looking at one of these

any good? Can I get more for my money?
I think a vanilla 6800 (which you can get for around £200) would be a better option - it seems to be faster in just about everything and is cheaper.

A normal nVidia 6800 (the competition to the X800s) - not the 6800LE, 6800GT or 6800 Ultra. It has 12 pipes, compare to the 6800GT/Ultra's 16, and the X800SE's 8.Quote:

These look pretty good - there are soooo many 9800's though...are these ones your would recommend inparticular??
If you mean 6800s, they are all pretty much the same. You could also got for a 6800GT rather than a 6800, but they obviously cost a fair bit more. What are your current system specs? If you get a 6800GT, the rest of your system might mean you can't use a 6800GT to its full potential.Quote:

With the set up I have will I still take advantage of the 6800's u both mentioned? - I realise I will only be able to use in 4XAGP mode untill I get a new board, but I should still see a MASSIVE boost in performance over my Ti4200 shouldn't I????!!!!
U can get a ASUS Gamer Edition 256mb 6800 GT for £260, so for the extra 60 notes and the bundle/speed increase your getting you can't really argue :)

A 6800 would give a decent boost in performance. For around £200, I personally think it is the best option.
