So - my 4 year PC lifecycle is almost back at the "new build" stage. This time around the build is more focussed on virtualisation workstation than gaming, and I'm reasonably happy with what I've pulled together for that *however* I'm currently torn on the GPU to use. I'm currently gaming at 1920*1200, and can't see that changing any time soon - my current card is a HD7970. Given that I tend to build once and not get on the upgrade cycle (barring adding SSDs over the life of the current machine) I tend to prefer to spend a decent amount on a card that will last me.
So: if you were spending something in the region of £4-500 would you be looking at the current gen of nVidia cards or hold out for the next gen? I'm not averse to moving the 7970 across to the new build for a few months as I'm generally still ok with how it performs. Plus if I can eke out another 3 or 4 months from this card it means I can spend some money on beer in the meantime (or save toward an OR, or similar).
Did I just answer my own question?
