You'll see some difference, a few frames/second, but nothing massive.

In your position, I would stick with the 9700 Pro until the next round of products / price cuts and then buy something at the 6800GT / X800XL level.

    LOTS OF DIFFERENCE
    I upgraded from a 5600fx to the 6600gt,

My machine is an AMD 3000+xp
    768mb ram
ATA 133 HDD , so lower spec than your machine and now i play HL2 at full settings, and MoH PA at full settings with no frame drop.

It definatley worth it as you will notice the difference.

ArmagoN, he is upgrading from a 9700 Pro, not an FX5600, there's a difference...

I would stick with the 9700 Pro for now, although the 6600GT would increase performance.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

As schmunk and Mblaster have already said, a 6600GT wouldn't really be worth purchasing - the increase would be too small for the cost of the 6600GT.

    i agree with mike,

not really worth upgrading atm, hold out a bit, and wait for the next step to really gain something, the price paid would not be worth it, to upgrade from the 9700pro
