I was looking around the various 970s myself a short while ago. The Gigabyte one seems to be both quieter and cooler, however that said I believe they still haven't implemented 0% fan speed when idle on their cards, atleast not on the 970s.
So if a little more noise when idle isn't an issue, pick up the G1 Gaming. It seems to be a significantly better card, assuming you can fit it as its a VERY long card.
ASUS isn't a bad choice either, their cooler just isn't as good.
Edit: That said, if you're deciding between various parts as I can see from your post history for the last 3 minutes, better off making one big thread over in "Review My Build" IMO.
I dislike Strix cards personally, G1 is the choice for me!
I've had the GTX 970 G1 Gaming since the first day they released and have been nothing other than very happy with my purchase. They have a good factory overclock straight out of the box and stay cool all the time. More than a few have complained about cards that kept fans off till 60ºC as the cards would always run warm, which the G1 doesn't as it is yet to run over 60ºC in my machine, even in graphic intensive games. Okay, it may have reached 60ºC once or twice... As for noise, the fans on idle such as now whilst typing this, is quieter than a 120mm case fan, which is pretty quiet itself.
Seriously, it's probably the best of the bunch of GTX 970 cards - you will not regret it.
any of these two cards have coil whine issues?
take G1 if this world left 2 brand. y don't u wait for couple for weeks? there's need gpu coming up around the corner.
Also a great card. By far the best cooler around currently IMO. Only reason I'm looking at G1 instead of MSI for my eventual 970/whatever card, well 2 reasons actually, is that MSI only sticks one of each display one their cards, whereas Gigabyte have 3x DP, HDMI etc etc. And 2nd reason is no backplate, my MSI 760 doesn't have one anyway, but surprisingly it seems the massive G1 with backplate droops less than the shorter MSI without backplate.
MSI Gaming 4G or ASUS 970 Strix would be my picks. I had the Strix for a few months and it was an excellent card. Extremely quiet, I never actually heard it running, and it was an excellent overclocker.
