    X800XT hot or not ????????

    Hi all
ive just built my first shuttle (5G5) and am a bit concerned as to how hot my card gets, after playing farcry or half life 2 i go into the catalyst control centre and it shows the temp as 52 degrees F which then starts to slowly drop down to an idle temp of about 41 degrees F is this TOO hot or within acceptable limits ?????????????

    thanks for any help

Those temps are fine, I don't know what you are worried about.

If its *F, then yeah, its fine. The card should automatically warn you if its exceeding optimal operating temps.

    Relax, your temps are fine.

I have a 6800 that hits 100C under certain configurations.

use a program like riva tuner to set ur fan speed to 100% all the time that should knock temps down a few degrees

As a rule of thumb (but not accurate in all cases) - you should definitely start to worry between 100c-120c

I was discussing this temperature issue with Sami from Finland who set the 3DMark world record for us when we launch R420 and he said that the ideal type of coolant for serious overclocking was one that would reduce the temperature of the GPU by around 100-120 degrees...

...on that basis water and carbon dioxide don't have enough kick and liquid nitrogen is probably a bit strong
