If any of you are using powerful ATI cards (together with Catalyst Control Centre) and getting more than 60 frames per second in your favourite games...
...there is an alternative to letting all of those yummy extra frames a second go to waste...
...you could use the power of your card to get extra image quality !
We have a feature called Temporal Anti Aliasing (cue 2001)
Basically, you enable this is the Control Centre and then - when you have more than 60fps in a game - it will automatically kick in and effectively double your Anti Aliasing level![]()
It does this by using the extra horsepower available to vary the sampling pattern used by the AA engine
Varying the pattern makes all of the lines smoother because the eye still has the first pattern on the retina when the second one arrives
Natural interpolation occurs and the perceived image quality increases
Given that many users have TFT panels that will max out at 1280x1024 - and 60fps can be reached in a number of games at that resolution - it is worth turning Temporal Anti Aliasing on and enjoying the extra quality !
