for the completely insignificant minority, i've written some patches to Flavio Stanchina's scripts (which create catalyst Debian packages from the original Red Hat packages) to work with amd64. haven't had much chance to test yet, they seem to hard-lock my computer, but that's probably an all too common AGP-versus-ATI linux driver issue.

http://xoomer.virgilio.it/flavio.sta...installer.html for the original install, follow up to step 3, then after
    Code:
    dpkg-source -x fglrx-installer_8.8.25-1.dsc
    download http://apebox.net/modules/code/nonsense/fglrx64.patch , then
    Code:
    cd /usr/src/fglrx-installer-8.8.25
    patch -p1 < /path/to/fglrx64.patch
all subsequent steps (the rest of 3a, and later instructions) will now generate amd64 packages.

    Hi Lewis,

In the time that I have had Cat 5.1, I have tried X800 vanilla, X800 XL, X800 XT and X850 XT PE...

    ...no issues at all

Plugged the next one in and it benched fine using the following at 1280x1024 4x/8x:-
    - 3DMark03
    - 3DMark05
    - HL2 Canal
    - HL2 Town
    - The Project
    - Doom III

Sorry I can't offer more advice

p.s. I did flash my motherboard BIOS recently - but I can't say that it had any effect on stability and I cannot recommend you do it in case it causes an issue

Everything did seem fine when i 1st installed the drivers, everything was working fine. It was only later on that i discovered the hanging problem on restart of pc.

I really dont understand what the problem is, cat 4.9-4.12 have all worked perfectly fine.

I managed to get these installed onto my laptop even though Acer's device ID is... different.

I had to poke around in the ini file a bit, but all seems well - and it still works.

Do think i should bother e-mailing ati?

Or just wait and see what happens at next driver release?

    Unwanted + unloved here

When I saw your query, I passed it to the Catalyst driver team in Toronto and they have no reports of this kind of issue

Also, as I explained, my set up is very similar to yours, so unless you do a completely clean reinstall of your system (with 5.1) and then still have the problem...

...it is difficult to say what it is

I am not saying that you should do that - but you need to look at the amount of information we have on installations and issues

Hundreds of thousands of people have already installed 5.1 and we do not have this problem 'flagged' - so it could well be 'something else'

The easiest way to eliminate 'something else' is with a clean build/install - but that is a lot of work

Sorry that I do not have another suggestion - but it is hard to offer one before doing a lot more 'mundane detective work'

If you really feel that there is a 'fault' - then can I suggest that you contact Sapphire's support guys in the UK on Monday during normal business hours ? You can reach them on 01753 732 278

    Hope this helps !

If it is the security update that I am thinking about - then I installed that as soon as it came out (10-14 days ago ?)...

    ...still no problems

Try the UK Sapphire support guys on Monday and see if they can help

Well i woulda been happier if i wasnt the only 1 with a problem...

So will i have to re-install my remote wonder controller everytime a new ati driver is released?

I didnt have to do this for catalyst 4.11 or 4.12
