heheh even my 9700 pro beats my mates 9600xt
The 9700 Pro is still a decent card, not too far off the 9800 Pro.Originally Posted by JimmyBoy
To answer the original question, 9800 Pro definately. If you can stretch a bit further, you might want to consider a 6600GT. It has all the fancy new bits, and is generally faster than a 9800 Pro except when the resolution and AA are turned up.
And the drivers are called Catalysts. And I don't know the speed difference between the various driver sets since I'm using the set from about a year ago still Although apparently the general trend is better performance.

This would be the cheap 9500np that does 6000 3DMark03, at least 1000 over most 9600XTs and would trounce your card is it? Yet you're claiming a 9600XT is better than a 9800 Pro? What are you smoking? Every other single poster, every benchmark, every review has shown every time that the 9800pro is in a different league to the 9600XT, yet they're all wrong and you're right? If you're going to post complete fallacies, do it on a topic where you're not so easily and comprehensively proved wrong.Originally Posted by |{££|"
In the other thread I was explaining how some very cheap cards can clock very highly and yet others not clock at all. That thread was initially about upping clockspeed, not about overall performance. It was you who brought up how 'great' your 9600XT was and how it'd own my card. I proved that you were utterly wrong and you've posted absolutely nothing to refute the fact.
As for any sort of artifacting with my card, I only get them to be noticable at all if I push the card higher than the 400/315 speed I run the card at. It's quite amusing, for all your talk you still won't produce the goods of a simple 3DMark03 score because you know that you are talking FUD. It's quite pathetic really, telling me to shh, when it's you who needs to 'shh' because you won't accept the fact your 9600 got totally owned.
9800 Pro fo sho
His "cheap" soft-modded 9500NP unlocks the extra 4 pipelines, which in effect produces a 9700 pro when clocked to 325/310. This will OWN a 9600xt which is an inferior card even though a 9600xt will have a higher clock speed.Originally Posted by |{££|"
The original 9500/9700 cards were mostly built on the same pcb using the same core and therefore if you were lucky enough to get one that had the extra 4 pipelines undamaged (along with the decent ram) they would softmod.
I would stay humbly quiet if I were you. Unless of course you can give us a link to your 3dmark03 score.
Edit: To answer the original question. 9800 pro all the way.
9500 softmod or 9800pro will piddle all over the 9600XT, overclocked otherwise.
btw, you could always overclock the 9800pro to 9800XT speeds and completely tear it a new one

well i'm convinced...but before I hand over a wodge of cash...
i did hear a nasty rumour that nForce chipsets don't like ATI cards, is this true or simply malicious rumour started up from inside the nvidia camp, upset at being beaten comprehensively by the radeon chipsets?

...and how does the 9800pro compare to the 6800gt, 6600gt (or non-GT versions)? i can get the 6600gt for less than the 9800pro but is it faster/better?

Well, my son has an Abit NF7-S Nforce2 motherboard with a 9800pro and it runs like a dream.Originally Posted by shiato storm

Well the 6600gt is probably slightly faster than the 9800pro but really not much between them so either will do just fine. If you want to save a bit of money then the 9700pro can be had around £95 mark and is only slightly slower than the 9800pro at £125. The 6600gt is a newer card but the 9800pro is a classic of recent times. Unless you can afford to spend double your budget I would leave the 6800GT out of this thread.
