guessing that your budget is on the low end, I'd say go for the best damn ti4200 you can lay your hands on.

I agree, if money is tight, the ti4200 is the way to go

Definitely 4200 (esp with 128MB), if you're on a budget it is unrivalled and can o/c like a dream too. FX5200 is a worthy entry level card but way slower and inferior to the 4200. ATI have great mid and high end offerings but the decapitated Rad9000-9200 really suck. So basically 4200, no question.

I would sell off your SB Live though, the onboard sound of NF7-S is WAY better and the Live was quirky and hungry as hell! It's a shame to use PC2100 when your mobo and CPU are capable of 400mhz operation ... easily added/updated later though. If your CPU is TbredB then it should be capable of 2.0ghz (< 1.60v) easily and 2.2ghz shouldn't be much of a challenge unless your cooling is weak. Anyway even stock an XP1900+ with GF4TI4200 is an amazing and well balanced combination.

If your concerned with the future and want to play DX9 games then the 9600Pro should be your number 1 choice.

9500 Pro is quicker then the 9600 Pro and about the same, if not quicker then the Ti4200 and has stronger dx9 compatability.

9600 pro I'd say, a little slower than the 9500 pro, but it'll O/C further due to better ram

The 9500PRO is a good 10% faster than 9600PRO and both o/c well. The 9600PRO is still a great card and a better choice than the FX5600ultra ... however speed isn't much abovew the GF4TI4200 so what you're getting for your extra £60 is DX9, AA+AF usable to high levels and better perf in the latest games. If you can't or don't wish to spend over £100 the 4200 is easily the card to go for.

considering the poor fx performance with hl2...

it really is between 9600pro and ti4200 - therefore, as austin said, you must decide whether you want to spend that bit extra for dx9 compliance and better aa/af performance

If you can afford the 9600pro (as mentioned in your first post) then go for it, the only reason for even considering anything less is budget

Get the Sapphire 9600Pro "Fireblade" for £146 or something. A shade faster than the standard 9600Pro.

An excellent card for the money, you should definately consider it over the other choices.
