Have you tried running any games etc. on the card since the resolution issue appeared? it wouldn't at all surprise me if Windows generic VGA driver topped out at a stupid low resolution while the linux generic driver supported a much wider range. It's possible that the 780 Ti is working fine as a graphics card, but if you ask it do anything GeForcey (like running games or CUDA code) it'll bork horribly.
