    Rad Problems?

Well im thinking of treating myself to a Rad 9700 pro / Rad 9800 and i was wodering if they still had problems with kt400 boards.

    My Current system is

    Athlon XP 2100+ (1.74ghz)
    Gigabyte 7VAX (KT400)
    512 DDR PC2700 Ram
    GF4 Ti4200p Turbo 128MB
    Windows 2000 Proffesional
    350W Power Supply.

Should be able to cope with the cards but would the rad have probs with my kt400 as i heard about this before when they first came out?

    Cheers,

    Stylez

7VAX are excellent mobos and KT400 are very decent ... apart from the incompatibilities with the early AGP8x cards that is. The issue was reportedly solved in the later revisions of the AGP8x cards and with later BIOS' and mobo drivers (if not gfx too) so you should be fine ... I managed to get a 9500PRO running in a 7VAX once the newest drivers and mobo BIOS were out ... with a fresh install too. The biggest problem is that Giga's otherwise excellent KT400 implimentation lacked the ability to switch to AGP4x which generally worked for every other KT400 out there ... and with no impact on perf. Without AGP4x switching the 7VAX had to run without AGP (0xAGP / disabled) ... still very little impact on perf so long as you didn't run out of gfx RAM.

So go ahead and get one, if needs be you can always send it back (distance buying) but that's VERY unlikely ... IMHO there's virtually no risk esp with the Rad9600PRO or Rad9800 based cards which should have addressed the issue even if the BIOS and drivers fail you. Go ahead!

Well i checked on the rage3d site and apparently has no problems, it said if it has a problem then it will be shown in the notes section and there was nothing for mine but there was for the 7vaxp. Rage 3d Results.

So imo it should be fine, if i run into difficulties could always send it back i suppose. Just have to find somewhere which sells them now, or if not get a Rad 9800 (non pro).

If you run into problems let me know as I have a plethora of stuff to try in order to resolve the issue. 7VAX is identical to 7VAXP, only lacking things like Firewire and RAID IIRC, I owned a 7VAX and believe there was a big issue for a month or two when the AGP8x cards first appeared. Still I seriously doubt you'll have any problems with the latest mobo BIOS, hw drivers and the newer cards like Rad9600PRO, Rad9800 etc. A good place to look for that elusive gfx card is ...

    Grandmars 9700 o/c'ed (he says 9700PRO) £168
    Grandmars 9800 £209
    Grandmars 9800PRO £249

From the looks of that page mate, does look a lil dodgy imo lol. Has anyone actually dealt with him, as i would not want to send £100+ and not get anything in return.
