    6600GT fan coming off!

is there a way of fixing a fan to a graphics card better than how it comes in its box?
I have just got my order from scan which includes an XFX 6600gt ( ) but not so good is the attachment of the fan to the agp board...it has two black plastic 'spear' type things that go through corresponding holes in the board. The thing is if I turn the card upside-down, as it would be on the motherboard, the fan and heat sink comes away from the gpu...which means in a short time gpu = black and crispy...
Any ideas for what I can do/use to keep the fan and heat sink fixed firmly to the card?

check the spears are all the way through and popped out properly... cos they're the devil's own spawn when trying to undo them usually

yeah thye're pushed thru...seems like might be best with springs on them to hold the fan pressed down but on this high-end card there are no such things in place. to be brutally honest its not as good as the clasping on my gf2 mx (also by xfx) which has springs to hold the heat sink down...might try a transplant...

Another thing to try, is when the spears are pushed through and clicked out, is to spread the prongs more. That way they can't go through the hole as easy. Use a tiny flat screw driver or something.

    Regards

well, i slept on it (the thought not the card!) and haven't figured out a solution yet...tried all of the above suggestions relating to the push-pins but still seems quite loose and wobbly and I can pull it away from the card whilst the pins are still in...

use a rubber band... or get a 3rd party cooler for it..

Both are perfectly good options, and the second may give you better performance..

Might be worth looking into one of these:

I have one on order, and have seen one in action and it works a hell of a lot better than the cooler on the 6800 XFX GT I got

The pushpins have no springs on them at all? They should and it seems the reason why it's not holding to the card. RMA, you weren't sold a complete product and while Arctic coolers are nice, not everyone is interested in them when it comes to selling the board on (since you've changed the cooler, what else has been done to the board? and there's warranty to consider), so it'd be nice to have the original intact cooler around for future use.

    have you thought about this.

the website says it be used on a 6600... and im interested to see if it does fit, cos i just got the xfx 6600GT as well, and its a bit loud for my otherwise silent PC
