    Hercules 9800pro 128mb o/c experience?

Just wanted to know if anyone has this card and has tried to push it, what speeds should the copper sinks do the memory till and should the core heatsink be replaced (heard it was a bit poor)

Modding virtually any gfx card is pretty pointless esp on the high end cards, all you'll do is void your warranty even if it fails from something unrelated. As for how far you can go ... not far, as always with top end cards you're pretty near the technical limits by default ... that's why people get the 9500PRO, 9600PRO, 9700 etc. Anyway you can only go on what your own card can do, you may get a lot or nothing. Just use small steps up and test thoroughly each time, esp look for any visual glitches and try running as many DX9 tests as possible. Once you fond the limit, back it off at least 10mhz for long term stability.

if ur carefull, u wont kil it when u mod, any u SHOULDNT need to use the warrenty anyway.

i agree ur near techinical limits with the higher end cards, but it doesnt make much difference to max clocks (exeption might be DDR2 ram, because its fairly new). ram makes most difference in performace faster is better, and manufactureres usually chose ram with a gap between the rated clock and what they intend to clock it at so its not running at max, doesnt get too hot and less chance of it dieing. for example mine is 3.3ns stock is 270, whereas the ram chips are rated for something like 310mhz.

not sure what the average clock is for the 9700pro gpu, but ive got wayyyyyy past thats stock, on my 9700np (stock 276, current 370), so the gpus might be exactly teh same as the pro ones used. (and i should get further, no artifacting yet, just had a very crap cooler on mine so i couldnt clock it)

with ati cards the gpu cooler can be very badly fitted, when i took mine off though it looked like there was plenty of contact from the pattern on the therml paste on the heatsink.
the power regulators at back of card (under heatspreader) are inssuficeintly cooled so its good to put a fan/h/s on the heatspreader (can get +30mhz on the mem when waterooled + voltmods)

also dont ask about softmodding (9500s.. ) its an easy way to kill a card and i cba to tell u cos u wont do it anyway.

oh and use the latest drivers @ www.omegacorner.com they are a lot better imo and have some usefull apps with it (radlinker - for easy clocking, and artifact tester 5)

not sure about the hercules but i've benched my no name 9800pro at 461/369, has a stock heatsink/fan and no ram sinks, only thing i did was to replace the thermal compound under the heatsink with arctic silver 3. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=904488
