Side grade GTX980 to RX480
So I was thinking of selling my GTX980 nearing the end of its warranty and side grading to a Sapphire RX480 nitro. I'm thinking this will be a bit more future proof with driver dx12 vulcan etc. I'm not going to wait for Vega. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. For the moment i am just looking for 1080p 60fps.
Is this the best option for a side grade was wondering about the 1060? I bork at 1070 prices atm.

Can't really think why you'd want to - if it hasn't broken by now it's unlikely too in the near future, unless you need the warranty cover for a business reason or something.
Re: Side grade GTX980 to RX480
I think both the RX 480 and GTX 1060 will be more of a downgrade than a side grade from the 980, except in well-optimised DX12/Vulkan titles:

Unless you're playing a lot of Hitman, the RX 480 is going to feel noticably slower than a GTX 980, based on that comparison. I'd sit tight for now (I don't really think end of warranty is a good reason to sell a card - if it's lasted through its warranty period I'd stick with it until it dies, frankly) and see what the picture looks like in 6 months.
Re: Side grade GTX980 to RX480
It depends on how much it is worth secondhand??
On Ebay they sell for between £160 to £250:

They probably are using launch drivers and a reference card.
You can get a RX480 8GB for under £200 now.
Re: Side grade GTX980 to RX480
GPU Boss says the gtx980 is a bit better than the rx480 - http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-RX-48...eForce-GTX-980
So does Tom's - http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/...x-980-480.html
I think DX12 implementation will be slow. I'd stick with the gtx980.
Re: Side grade GTX980 to RX480
If its going to cost next to nothing I would side grade TBH - the GTX980 will be increasingly limited by only 4GB of VRAM too.
Re: Side grade GTX980 to RX480
Nope, don't do it.
Vega is only a few months away - I'd wait and see what that does to the market.
Re: Side grade GTX980 to RX480
Thanks for the advice I think AMD are announcing vega next week? It depends if there is a mid range vega card RX580? for around 200-250 otherwise I will probably sidegrade as it won't cost me much to do so at current used gtx980 prices. Also RX480 now pretty much matches 980 with latest drivers.
